Elon Musk sells 2.1m of flamethrowers in a day plus extinguishers

Last edited Mon Jan 29, 2018, 04:47 PM - Edit history (1)

The Guardian:

Elon Musk, the multi-billionaire founder of electric car company Tesla and tunnelling company Boring, has sold $3m (£2.1m) worth of “boring” flamethrowers in less than 24 hours.

The maverick businessman, who last week secured a pay deal that could see him collect $55bn, had pledged that if The Boring Company sold 50,000 baseball caps at $20 each he would start selling flamethrowers.

The caps sold out, and Musk started selling $500 flamethrowers on Sunday, tweeting: “Guaranteed to liven up any party!”

...snip...

On Twitter, he said the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) decrees that “any flamethrower with a flame shorter than 10ft is A-ok. Our design is max fun for least danger. I’d be way more scared of a steak knife”.

As agricultural tools. If they were classed as a gun a background check would be required.

No need to get wrapped around the axle on this. We're not talking napalm here.

I can make a bigger flame with my current weed burner.

right here.

look at the fine print on the Boring website:

-Fire extinguisher sold separately (for exorbitant amounts of money)
-Taxes and shipping will be added at checkout
-Additional customs fees may apply for international orders because of laws
-International customers can receive a full refund if not happy with said fees
-Before shipping, aspiring flamethrower aficionados will be sent a terms and conditions rhyme for review and acceptance
-Starts shipping in spring
-May not be used on Boring Company decorative lacquered hay bales or Boring Company dockside munitions warehouses

Anyone else see issues with what is bolded?

On Friday, there was talk that it sat behind a password-protected product page.

On Saturday, it appeared for sale on the company's website at the bargain price of $500.

Oh, but there was so much fascinating marketing to accompany it.

There was Musk showing off his little friend.
