When Congress said - there's a law against possession and production of marijuana (based on its drug classification) and the DOJ (DEA) should enforce the provisions of that law regardless of what a state votes to permit as "legal", and the President says - "Well, we are not going to prioritize our resources to do that".... So in that case, how do you react?

That's the territory that we are in right now...

is a bit of a higher priority than rounding up people whose only "crime" is choosing something other than alcohol to get high?

that is in fact, a "fact". Remember those things called "signing statements" that were just blown out of proportion but were a "thing"?

Trump Administration Holds Off on New Russia Sanctions, Despite Law

By REUTERS JAN. 30, 2018, 1:18 A.M. E.S.T.

<...>

Senator Bob Corker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, one of the main congressional architects of the sanctions law, said he was not concerned that the administration did not announce sanctions by Monday's deadline.

"This is when sanctions season begins, and so they'll be rolling them out," he told reporters.

"We feel pretty good about the process," Corker said. "They're rushing the information over to us today, and by the close of business, they're going to have two of the three, as I understand it. So they're taking it very seriously."

after it was pointed out HOW the Executive Branch works and the tools that the President has and can use to essentially "violate the law".

Now you can put your head in the sand and stomp your feet or pound a podium..... OR maybe you can go look up past history and then come up with another response.

No one (especially ME) is advocating that Drumpf violates the law that HE signed himself. But there needs to be a bit more education on what the remedies are to this because this "tool" has been used by almost ALL Presidents, apparently since James Madison.

Here is his signing statement for others in the thread -

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/statement-president-donald-j-trump-signing-countering-americas-adversaries-sanctions-act/

What it says in part -

My Administration has attempted to work with Congress to make this bill better. We have made progress and improved the language to give the Treasury Department greater flexibility in granting routine licenses to American businesses, people, and companies. The improved language also reflects feedback from our European allies – who have been steadfast partners on Russia sanctions – regarding the energy sanctions provided for in the legislation. The new language also ensures our agencies can delay sanctions on the intelligence and defense sectors, because those sanctions could negatively affect American companies and those of our allies.

I believe some media outlets are already noting this. This is not my condoning of what he is doing but it is what is being used to justify what he is doing.

on earth does Trump have the authority to not enforce them.

Message to Republicans in Congress - You thought you had the tiger by the tail but if you let Trump override the sanctions that were passed and signed into law, you just got ate by the tiger. You do not, in fact, have the control on Trump that you thought you did. What would stop him from refusing to enact any other law you passed and that he signed?
