Holy Shit!! Trey Gowdy "retiring", won't seek relection.

There is a time to come and a time to go. This is the right time, for me, to leave politics and return to the justice system. Full statement here ?

House Republican committee chairs who aren't seeking reelection. (A ninth, Rob Bishop, plans to serve one more term if reelected this year.)

7. Apparently he used to be an Asst. U.S. Attorney

so maybe he is thinking they could nominate him for either a District/Appeals Court Judge (he clerked in those positions before) or maybe as a U.S. Attorney.

Seems the "judge" might be more the possibility given it is a "lifetime" position.

3. What is that, 35 "retirements"?

This has really acquired the "They can't prosecute all of us" vibe, hasn't it?

For decades, Republicans kept saying that if they only had full control of the reins of government, boy, you'd really see some governance then, boy. They've had untrammeled power for just over a year, and dozens of them are scurrying for the exits.

8. I wonder how many are in actual violation of law by accepting money from Russia?

What will we find out about the NRA accepting and giving out Russian money?

Who will the chief traitor pardon and who wont he pardon, which will be based on his emotion at the time, of course?

What solar system or galaxy would be safe to fly a democrat to if they did half of what trump has done? Does one exist?

Anybody know anything about his district? Chance of a Dem being elected?

11. It's a fairly right-wing district.

Gowdy replaced long-time Congressman Bob Inglis, who got teabagged by Gowdy. Inglis is what many would now consider a "moderate" republican, who supports things like scientific facts. The district does contain Greenville, which has a fair number of moderate/left-leaning typs, so the Dems snagging this seat is not out of the realm of possibility. I wouldn't get my hopes up, however.

13. Is that the district that Frank Underwood represented on House of Cards?

Yes I know that's a fictional show but I know the district is/was a real district.
