When we had mods, Skinner's advice was when things got to be too much it was advisable to take a break. I really hope that you take that advice and come back when you're ready. That said, I do know what you mean. I needed to take a break during the primaries when things got to be too much for me. Hoping to see you again.

When things got crazy during 2016, I just left until the convention was done. The now-JPR people were practically running a censored board here, calling anyone who didn't pray to Bernie Sanders at night a Nazi, and deleting dissenting posts by jury shenanigans.

By the convention, they had gone to play in their own little world, and some modicum of sanity got restored., so I returned.

Still, it doesn't do to live in here, or even in your computer. There is a real world out there. I still have my day job, don't contemplate retiring until I'm 80, unless Mother Nature has me slated to quit beforehand. Get out and get rained on, or told off at a cashier somewhere, whatever. But don't any internet board become an obsession. A break is indeed required for relative sanity.

This is a safe place to discuss Democratic policy. If you want to discuss some other ideas why don't you go somewhere else for that. Then come back here when you want to discuss Democratic ideas and Democratic leadership.

What a Right Wing thing to post on a Democratic board.

The cartoon should have depicted a spine on the floor with non-voters, 3rd party Greens, Sarandons, millennials who sure can rally & post FB quips but can't get motivated to go vote when the big day arrives.

The Democratic leaders have only what the voters give them, to work with.

I used to post this back in the day (2004-2008). No real need to post it much these days. Democrats got stuff done under Obama (health care as just one example) and held the line at other times. They are holding the line about as much as is practical these days under very adverse circumstances.

It's "not the same DU", but it is still a very good DU.

Democrats while ignoring that Republicans want to give doctors the right not to treat LGBTQ people...let them die , send Dreamers home and destroy all social welfare programs, but Democrats who have no power are somehow supposed to stop the evil pugs when some who think like this poster are part of the reason we have no power. The Dems were so 'horrible' some of them voted for Princess Jill and loudly attacked Hillary. I don't care who you supported in a primary when it comes to the election vote Democratic. Also, this same mindset is why Pres. Obama lost in 10 thus crippling his administration for six years. Imagine what we could have done had Democrats had the president's back.

of the disagreement. Scorched earth will get you a hide every single time. Breaking ToS agreements to support Democratic candidates and officials will usually get you a hide. Personal attacks will usually get you a hide. Trolling will usually get you a hide.

The fact that someone changes his name usually means they're up to something.

I think from all you've said you want something more discussionist or JPR and DU will not be the place for you. You want rough and tumble and we want the White House and Congress, mope slapping each other just will not work. It is a big tent and we need Democrats committed to the party.

Bye.

I’ve been here awhile, just started posting not long ago and have been surprised at the number of close minded and obnoxious people. Just to clarify it’s certainly less than10% at most who fall in that category maybe they don’t even comment on my post but I tend to go back and read threads that interest me enough to want to comment. I know I have to take a break sometimes.

I was reading thru here and was surprised how long some people have been members. I lose track of that stuff. Seems like since I have been here the pages look pretty much the same. I was thinking back to the first time I joined reddit. Back then it was pretty much just a list of news articles. Really different now. I have a throw away yahoo account, I think many do something like that, I use for registering in sites like this. You know how they want you to update your contact info all the time? I got one the other day saying I hadn’t updated my backup account at Lycos in 16 years. Anyone remember lycos? That was my first email account beyond whatever local service I’d signed with. Geez have we been in the digital age othat long? How I’d we get by without cell phones and internet? Certainly didn’t seem a problem back then, but recently broke my cell phone and felt naked. At any rate, not really on the subject. People are just way more inclined to share what they really think in an anonymos setting like this.

site that explicitly states they endorse Democrats and then want to start trashing Democrats. Let me just say this....the practice you speak of...belittling Democrats has cost us elections. So maybe JPR is more your cup of tea...they hold Democrats feet to the fire like no one business let me tell you...burn them at the stake really and consider them worse than Republicans-not comprehensible to me. Good luck.

And that's part of the problem. I'm sorry to see you go, but I hope you find a place where the members actually have real discussions and exchanges of ideas and beliefs without the petty cliques, the knee-jerk reactions, the childishness. It doesnt happen here very often anymore. I often open DU now, read a few posts, and think the place has jumped the shark.

Other than in a few very small hobby forums, in that time I've never seen a discussion board that didn't demonstrate petty cliques, knee-jerk reactions & childishness.

I joined DU in 2005, but I can confirm that these have likewise been evident the whole time I've been here.

Hmm.... Now that I think about it, maybe I'm the cause!
