Boy, my own statement just made me realize how dependent we are on labels, and how they are themselves warped.

(212 posts)There comes a time when folks realize the jigs up. Even Republicans can vote for a Democrat. It happens. Especially when the alternative is a Communistic Traitor to Our Democracy. Not sure 'Big Agra', is ready to trade profits for the collective. Russia is challenging us. The pacific isn't that far away, hard to grow crops in Tulare when the soil is glowing. We can change this. Wait til they start spotting the subs and spy ships off the coast, and they get hip to things like an EMP attack. Things can change. Have faith.

We know nothing about what Andrew Janz stands for. He could be a white supremacist hiding behind this ad.
This is a Republican style attack ad. We're better than this.

(260 posts)Mr. Janz's ad appears just be news clips, from Fox, CNN and MSNBC. It seems to be nothing more than a 30 second Cliff Notes overview of Nunes's activity for the course of the Russian investigation, for those who haven't been paying attention.
Didn't even hear mention of Nunes 'recusing' himself. That's something that even Sessions appears to have honored.
How is that 'low' or off putting?
tecelote
(5,122 posts)But Janz is...?
Give us some substance. We're not sheep. We're not Republicans. At least hint at who Janz is.
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)We need to slam them with their lies. Total ridicule and questioning their patriotism.
That is what kicking in the face means to me. No quarter.
Every Democratic Congressperson should be screaming that Nunes is a Russian tool. And laughing at him. They cannot stand being made a joke.
herding cats
(19,564 posts)Which would lead to other Democrats saying Janz is spineless and can't go on the attack.
I like the ad and I think exploiting Nunes being a lying partisan scumbag is a great idea! The truth will be their undoing.

(58,785 posts)This is fundamentally a presentation of facts, and truth versus their intense use of lies is a complete difference. You may dislike it's strong, agrressive style, but that doesn't turn it into lies.
In contrast, Republicans cannot discuss any issue without lying because their goals are so far from the wishes of most of their own people. They lie constantly about themselves and also about us because only by fooling people into believing we're satan can they get away with what they're doing.
True, the question about whether Nunes has been compromised by Russia is not a statement of truth, and is over the line. But even that falls far short of the slimy techniques normally employed by Republicans. At least in this case many objective professional observers have been wondering and talking about just that for over a year. Because this isn't a phony scandal manufactured by professional swiftboaters out of nothing. It's the real thing, even if some huge questions, like why?, aren't answered yet.
tecelote
(5,122 posts)It says nothing about Janz.
"...and also about us because only by fooling people into believing we're satan can they get away with what they're doing."
Maybe include some reasons why he is better? Otherwise, it's the same game. Nunes may be bad but we're still satan.
SunSeeker
(51,555 posts)But this is an ad that must be run. It does a "good job" as you admit of showing (you oddly use the word "painting"-- suggesting the ad is not true?) that Nunes is scum. It exposes Nunes to his Fox-watching constituents who may not know this stuff.
Oh and WTF: "Nunes may be bad but we're still satan."
Who would think that?
You have Nunes on the one hand conspiring with Trump to obstruct justice and block prosecution of Russia interfering with our Democracy....and you have Janz on the other hand who is reporting that. How the fuck does that make Janz satan?! Or even in the same league as Nunes? How the fuck does calling out bad acts "bring you down to the level" of the the bad actor?!

Of course. And why wouldn't he respond to what is happening now? Attack while Nunes is top of the news and we need our position to be heard; there is plenty of time to run ads differentiating himself from Nunes.
Unfortunately, with some DUers it's damned if you do and damned if you don't.

(58,785 posts)about Nunes in an ad instead of informing about Janz?
You chose a bad position based on a bad premise, and your argument's going downhill. Don't know why you chose it in the first place. There's no virtuous ground to claim by denigrating the use of truth in political ads. Claiming that the ad is low, as bad as Republicans, specifically because it didn't delete half those truths to talk up Janz is bogus.
Ironically, while trying to build a case for how bad this ad is, you inserted "white supremacist" into discussion of Janz twice, claiming it's our fault people don't know he's not because we're so low. You may not realize it, but Republicans work overtime every election looking for places to insert those kind of associations, standard right-wing dirty trick.

(19,564 posts)If not what gives you the authority to say anything about what people there think?
On edit: Are you the same person I asked this of in another thread? Damn, but you are! Please, refer to my more comprehensive reply to you in your other posts on this topic. Oh, and if you don't live there stop letting your feelings lead you to think you have a right to dictate their politics. That's not how it works in the real world. If you live there then get out and get busy locally to get your voice heard. I looked and have no reply from you on my other post yet I don't know if you're local.

(37,748 posts)"This ad does nothing. It won't change a single mind..."

Or.....
2. Look at the upper right corner of your screen, there's a dialog box next to the word "Google". Type in his name and I guarantee you'll find a link to his nice website.
In fact, he has his email address on his website. You can send him an email and ask him if he's a white supremacist. I'm sure he'll let you know.

Did we forget how the GOP mocked Kerry, who ACTUALLY SERVED in the military with purple heart band-aids?

How about the swift boat ad against Kerry that called him a "sell out?"
We are dealing with an enemy without principles and we need someone willing to turn the weapons they use against them. That's the only way they will back down and learn their lesson.

(58,785 posts)since his district is so deep red. If Democrats can't take the seat, losing it to another Republican would be good.
If Mueller's investigation were to cause him the kind of trouble that could cause him to lose, it would need to be within the next 6 months since, despite Comey's sedition-level behavior, it seems extremely unlikely that Mueller would take actions that could devastate the Republican Party within 90 days of the election.
The California Democratic Party, while targeting Nunes, has also targeted another corrupt Republican also under federal investigation, Congressman Duncan Hunter. GOP colleagues have reportedly also gossiped pretty freely about his drinking and womanizing in DC, and behaviors apparently so bad they're attributed by apologists to "PTSD." Might be that trouble for one would hurt the other also.
They also described efforts by friendly lawmakers to get the 41-year old representative help, citing possible post-traumatic stress disorder from his military service.
Politico reported that the GOP is concerned that Hunters ongoing criminal investigation could leave the party with an election day disaster in which they lose one of the reddest seats in California to a Democrat.
