system. So many RWingers still believe that because they don't travel and don't read information about how defective our health care system really is. They don't see the logic of universal health care i.e. people who have health care provided through the taxes everyone pays it makes us all healthier, cuts down on infection rates and cancer is caught earlier.

27. My sister in the UK fell one night in her bedroom.

The ambulance was called, she was taken to the hospital. FREE. In the hospital in traction 6 weeks with a hairline fracture of her hip. FREE. Transferred to convalescent center for 6 weeks FREE. Before she was allowed home, the visiting nurse inspected the house, to make sure it was safe for her to walk in a walker. The nurse came over once weekly, checking on her. FREE. Hearing aids are FREE. I paid $3,600 for mine. Do not let them tell you National Health Services do not work. They do. The politicians need the large donations from pharma companies, and others, so they keep us all in debt for healthcare. How many politicians own nursing homes, or run health insurance companies? As long as there is big money to be had, we will continue to be royally SCREWED. Of course, the politicians get the best of care, even after retirement. It is a scam.

It is not perfect. But it is brilliant.

My grandfather had two pacemakers, and a whole load of medicine for his emphysema. My father has had multiple heart surgeries, bowel surgery, and prostate cancer. Neither of them had to file bankruptcy, nor received any bills in the mail asking for payment. All were treated - on the NHS. No copays. No deductibles. Paid through National Insurance Contributions through the pay cheque, paid according to their means.

Oh, and the NHS covers everyone in the UK. Costs a whole lot less than US medicine too. Yes, it is groaning at the seams and it has always been groaning at the seams. But you know what? Unlike US health care systems... it works.

As for marching to save the NHS... yes, my father's been there and my sister has been there (she's a RN, presently working NHS). I'd join them but I'm here in the States. Ironically it is so strange that the marching to save the NHS happens whenever there is a Conservative government in power.

The Royal family try to go NHS where possible as a matter of principle. Prince William worked for a time as an Air Ambulance pilot. So if the NHS is good enough for royalty, it's good enough for the rest of us peons... ehe

It goes without saying. But you don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

IMO, most of problems, in western democratic countries, are caused when Conservatives cycle into power for a few terms. At least the less moderate ones. That is where instead of increasing funding, for more doctors, nurses, equipment, hospitals, they cut funding, and privatize whatever their own health laws allow them to get away with. They do this partly to stoke a self fulfilling prophesy that public healthcare is failing. At least that is what our Con PM tried to do for 10 years up here in Canada before Justin Trudeau and the Liberals won back power.

But when they do this, it only exacerbates problems of longer wait times etc. and gives fuel to Con media personalities to use that on less educated listeners to demonize the public system.

Even if properly funded, any single payer configuration will cost much less than what the US has now for every person. The one big hurdle is to convince a large percentage that paying half as much, but as a TAX, is better than paying double as an insurance BILL.
