Human error, always. We have driverless cars, why not trains? Switching systems? Seems we could avoid a lot of problems by automating trains.

Private companies own and manage most of the tracks. Contrary to Republican beliefs, private companies don't naturally consider safety a priority.
If there is one thing that probably should be nationalized, it is all of the right of ways along railroad tracks.

no innovation and no modernization because Republican are not interested being competitive with any other industrialized country in the 21st century. After all, they have plenty of contraptions designed for the 18th century that still rely on "big beautiful coal".
