So I had an extremely awkward encounter with a Trumplodyte today.

Yes I saw one in the wild. And it was literally about what I would expect. So here's what happened:

My mom and I decided to have dinner at a local bar that we usually go to on a regular basis. But anyway tonight, we grab a seat by the bar. There's a woman sitting there alone with a half eaten flatbread pizza. Then a man comes over and grabs the phone and starts watching Sean Hannity - at a place where there's 100 other TVs. The woman asks him what he's doing there with another woman. She caught him having an affair. So while this is super awkward for us, I'm just giving the "do not engage" look to my mom the whole time. And then somehow the conversation turns to politics, and he starts blasting "the liberals" for the disaster that happened in the stock market today. I have the "implied facepalm" look on my face and we're still in the "do not engage" mode.

So then the two of them just stare at each other awkwardly while they finish the half eaten pizza and he downs a couple of Coors Lights. He then goes to the other table, says something, returns to the table, watches Hannity, mumbles incoherently about liberals, then they pay and leave.

So on the way home we're like "Is this how all Fox News viewers behave?". I really want to know if there's a connection between people who watch Fox News and people who have affairs. That would be some interesting research. That was the quite the awkward display I witnessed tonight.

of location and also with hot climates and other climate extremes, and those btw also correlate with each other. Just throwing that in. Not that that's an excuse for bad behavior, of course, but why is the south, for instance, so...what it is.

Inhabited by separate species of humans? Probably not. I see a lot of posts here whose conviction and commitment to democratic values frequently strike me as more than a little weak, and probably only some of their authors live in red states. Just imagine if they did.

Whatever. Ocelot's right. Lust isn't political. In fact, significantly more lust would probably do wonders for our hyperpartisanship problem.

The part that I find remarkable is that the guy is so stuck in his ways that he (and his apparent wife) go to the same bar where he took his date to have his affair , not necessarily that he’s unfaithful in the first place. Now that’s stubbornly conservative.

and you assume he's "having an affair?"

And then you wonder why Mike Pence refuses to have dinner alone with a woman other than his wife. DH had lunch with his former (female) boss last weekend. I'm sure the rumors are flying around town now.

She said something along the lines of "what are you doing with those women over there?". That's what tipped us off something unusual was going on.

I'd call it 'Nazi-beer', except even the Nazis had better judgement when it comes to beer.

If the guy is drinking that camel piss for political reasons, then he's just about the stupidest thing walking around on two legs. If a liberal brewery was producing bad beer, I wouldn't drink it in order to show political loyalty.

And I see people all the time who order Coors and Budweiser even though they could be drinking so much better beer. I even went to a brewery called Taps last weekend where they have some amazing beers that have won multiple awards. There's giant banners everywhere that say how many awards their beer has won. Yet they still not only drink, but insist on ordering the swill. Why go out at all?

I get it. Bear piss is just what we called it when I was growing up in CO. With some justification, given their pictures of "flowing spring waters"...years later a craft brewery ran an ad that made that exact point.

Maybe they don’t give a rat’s patootie what the political views of any given CEO are?

I don’t care for domestic beer, but I can’t imagine judging others for their personal tastes in beer.

I’ve heard of “beer snobs” before. Just never imagined I’d encounter them here. Smh.
