(8,200 posts)Also being a veteran, I am in total agreement with Rep. Duckworth. It appears that he is obsessed with his personal approval to the point of demanding adoration. He is as ridiculous as the North Koreans who punished people who don't show ridiculous admiration for the dictator. Aside from the personal aspects, I am very concerned that he uses the bully pulpit of the presidency to attack Democrats as not being real Americans. This has been a important aspect of the Republican Party's vicious attack on Democrats they have been pursuing for the last forty years. They classifying anyone who apposes their fascist policies as being immoral anti-Christian bigots. They portray rural God-fearing Americans as real Americans and the liberal educated class as the enemy. They regard ignorance as a God given gift. Its Orwellian, ignorance is enlightenment, Republicans good, Democrats evil.

(20,578 posts)I have known Tim Walz for 13 years now. He defeated an entrenched Republican for the 1st CD in 2006 based on facts and expert communication skills he had developed as a teacher in Mankato, a 2 time State Championship Football Coach, and a retired Command Sargeant Major. His effectiveness as a member of Congress will propel Jim to the Governor's Mansion come November.
I have disagreed with him on votes over the years, but Tim remains solid in his values. He wil be a wonderful Governor for Minnesota as he continues the Progressive move forward to keep Minnesota on the forefront for the rest of the country. I will be seeing him in the coming months as the convention season heats up here.

(22,578 posts)I agree that we should all do more than opine and mitch-and-boan about the state of the union, but from what I read, Rep. Walz is pretty active in supporting the real values of humans, Coloradans, US - unlike the t.i.c.

(58,724 posts)I feel like that "treasonous" comment deserved a more forceful response from the Democratic Party as a whole.

(1,202 posts)I happen to think making a vocal, public, biting remark in opposition to Trump may just kick some complacent and hibernating voters out of their recliners and to the voting booth.
In addition, a defiant stand against Trump with many, many others, doesn't go unnoticed amongst other Dems.
So what Drama do you think will seem honest and not kabuki?

(18,377 posts)Maybe he perceives his own base as not being vociferous and violent enough in their expressions of support for him, and so becomes more and more inflammatory in hopes of egging them on. Certainly many Democrats are afraid that his inciting will lead to violence. If that is his goal, he might well be unhappy that things remain essentially stable.

Hmmm ... I've discovered a DU malfunction. I type the French word T O U C H E ... and preview it to see that it said the French word, but when it posts it reads Touch. Tried to edit/correct several times -- I give up.
tblue37
(68,118 posts)Hyperactive autocorrect is probably changing "touche" to "touch." Even when you correct an unwanted autocorrect change, it can go back to autocorrect's version as you hit post.
I get around that by fixing the word to what I want, then going to the middle of the word so my tablet word suggestion list shows the word as I want it. Then I click the word as it shows on my table's suggestion list, then accept it when it is suggested that I add it to my dictionary. And then I hit post.
Notice that "touche" appears in my subject line (and in this sentence), but without the accent mark over the "e." DU's program doesn't allow accents in subject lines or posts.

Democrat's in Congress should be pursuing this with a vengeance (no pun intended).

This morning I had words with a Republican who is now a former friend -- he started in with this treasonous bullshit. I asked him about his military service -- he had multiple student deferments. It went downhill from there.
