...the first time Kelly came on the scene in the Grifter administration he was at Homeland Security, pushing Trump assaults on immigration and immigrants which provoked hundreds of thousands of protesters to spontaneously flood airports and city streets in opposition.
He was always just another Trumpworld asshole to me.

(82,849 posts)When Kelly first took the White House job, some folks speculated that he was doing it out of a sense of patriotism and duty to the country, that his military background compelled him to do what he could to "save" the country from the worst impulses of the Trump administration.
Hilarious, in hindsight. Well, maybe not rib-ticklingly funny, but at least chuckleworthy.

But yeah, it's hilarious.

(21,646 posts)John Kelly already knew Rob Porter had a restraining order against him
and Porter, whose job was reviewing all documents that go to the president, didn't have a full security clearance because of that protection order against him

Kelly is a bigoted scumbag.

(17,506 posts)better officers drop out along the way because they don't like the politics involved or end up under a commander who gives them a career-killing FITREP for one reason or another or see too many dopes in the chain-of-command above them. Once you get that first star, the next promotion is all political (having the right job, right command, right mentor, etc).
It's like a stock car race. Better cars and drivers leave the race from crashes, mechanical failure, bad fuel management, etc. The cars that are left win because they hang in the race, not necessarily because they're the best.
