The seat is held by, and will be won by, Dan Lipinski, who has had the seat since 2005 (and whose father had it for 12 years before that).

The repubs didn't even bother to field a candidate against Lipinski in 2016. It's pathetic that Jones will be the nominee and will get any votes at all, but I don't lose any sleep worrying that he'll end up in Congress.

That congressional district is one of the strongest Democratic districts in the state. For the last 30 years it has elected a strong democrat..Current Democratic congressman Dan Lipinski will not lose. See onenotes post two up. In 2014, there was a contested election. Sharon Brannigan ran against Lipinski

In the last election, the 'normal' republican got 35% of the vote.

Even though the guy is going to get slaughtered, he's still going to get some percentage of the vote.

Let's say he gets 12% of the vote in the general. In that case, I think it would be fair for us to say that one third of the republican voters in that district (and possibly all republicans) support nazis.

The fact is he is running unopposed in the Republican primary in the most Democratic district perhaps in all of Illinois.. He will absolutely be defeated, but so would almost any Republican.

To your point, however . . . . . yeah. Freaking amazing that a guy like this is actually running as an actual Republican.
