It's a big mistake to go into the elections, both this year and in 2020, assuming that we will win because we're not Trump. We must do a better job of defining a positive message and articulating it I always thought that following the advice of George Lakoff would be smart as far as messaging was concerned, but that's a topic for another post. I just read this article about how the Democrats can still blow the 2018 election. Sucking up to big business lobbyists. 2. Not talking about the economy. 3. Avoiding the issue of escalating health care and drug costs. 4. Allowing Republicans to create a false choice between economic fairness and economic growth. 5. Allowing Republicans to paint us as anti-business. 6. Most importantly of all: failing to fire up the base. Of course, the article elucidates each one of these points. I just hope some of our candidates take the time to read it.

In special elections, they've swung something like 35 seats from red to blue, compared to 3 or 4 that have gone blue to red.
