Thank you for the heart!!

One of you lovely people gifted me with a heart this morning. You have no idea how much I needed it...I came in from shoveling snow out of my chicken coop that had drifted in overnight. I was grumpy and mad at the snow and the heart melted my sour demeanor.

I’ll pay it forward! TGIF. 😍

and I couldn't believe it. But one thing about Montana, it can be freezing and snowing one day and 85 and sunny the next!

Looks like an Northeastern Artic blast from Canada is nailing everybody east of the Rockies right now.

I was born in Montana (Glendive) and still have family in Lewistown, Missoula, Great Falls and Laurel.
Some of the most beautiful country on earth (imo) is the Gallatin and Yellowstone Rivers and their canyons.
I have fond memories of driving with my uncle from Livingston down to Yellowstone and trout fishing along the way.
Hope the sun comes out soon and you and your chickens will be OK!

I wonder if I know any of your family?

You're so right about the nutty Montana weather...yesterday it was sunny and 55 degrees. We were all excited that the glacier in the back yard was melting and the chicken mamas were able to get out and peck in the grass. If you're from Glendive then you know full well what winter can dish out. You're also correct that it is beautiful here...and for that I am grateful.

Here's a pic of my neighborhood in all its winter glory:

Funny how those hills look so familiar!

My brother and I spent MANY a summer in the late 50's and 60's visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Missoula.
They lived on S. Higgins and I think 6th. Looking at Google Map now, their two bedroom, full basement, brick house is GONE. : ( Across the street was The Roxy Theater and Grandpa would give us a silver dollar and we got to go to the movies all the time.) Grandpa would take us to watch the Missoula Timberjacks play baseball down the street. He loved it too because he could smoke a cigar at the game and Grandma wouldn't know about it. lol

We got in BIG trouble one summer when we decided we would climb the mountain up to the white "M" on the hillside. We were gone for a long time, it was further than our little legs thought it was. When we got back, Grandma told us NOT to do that again because there were BEARS up there that could get us!

My Grandpa worked at the Northern Pacific Railroad depot downtown as a Wire Chief and telegrapher most of his career. All of my family on my dad's side worked for the railroad, spread out all over Montana.

Lots of great memories of that time and place. I'll never forget Grandpa taking us fishing on the Bitterroot River near Hamilton and stopping on the way back for a pony ride and ice cream! We were lucky to be so loved and spoiled! lol
Thanks for jogging my memories!

out of the Rattlesnake (my neighborhood) towards Mount Sentinel - with the "M" on it. That's a LONG hike for little people...to go from the Roxy to the M. There are bears all over...thank goodness...I like having bears around. Although I've never seen one on the face of the mountain. The Roxy burned years ago but was recently restored to it's original glory. You can get a beer or wine and watch good movies - some new and some classics depending on the day. Missoula is growing faster than I'd like but I still love it anyway. It is blue politically which has been a sanity saver for me.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful family memories with me! I enjoyed seeing Missoula through your eyes.
