This is Obama's inauguration, JimGinPA.
This kind of insulting equalization of "America," leading to a conclusion that American voters have no enlightened group or movement to be part of, is not helpful. Not here.

(7,663 posts)I don't doubt it was shared on Facebook, where issue-based conversations are useless. Pictures and fake news---that's what sells advertising. So, for those who view this, some (like me) don't understand, some fawn over the symbolism, and some just think it's pretentious.
And how can people come together in understanding with three different perceptions?
Glamrock
(12,003 posts)But I honestly can't see it any other way..... Seemed pretty clear the msg is we're all the same on the inside. Maybe I'm just not too bright.

(14,814 posts)But I think you're looking for a controversy where there isn't one. I've been here 10 years longer than you & was a volunteer for the Obama campaign in both 2008 & 2012, which I reported about extensively here. I'm sure I'm familiar with "enlightened group(s) or movement(s) to be part of".
Your reply is insulting & I'd appreciate it if you'd remove it.

(58,785 posts)My problem is the huge false equalizations of Democrats with Republicans by ascribing their sins to all "Americans."
My problem is the constant denial of goodness and decency by smearing all "Americans."
My problem is that this tactic was employed by our many enemies native and abroad to defeat us in 2016 and that our nation is currently buried under this same message. It's stated a thousand different ways, but the bottom line is that the goodness and competence that make voting Democratic the right choice don't exist. And that America is in decline and no wonder given its people.
That I'm offended personally and for my nation by this insult is not my problem. I resist and reject all these messages, whether deliberately manufactured or just exhaling the toxic miasma spread across the nation.
And I think you should too. You are also an American after all. Did you really need that message?

No problem.
I posted an image that was shared to my feed on FB, as I often do. You reached your own (misguided) conclusion & tried to preach.
I thought the imagery was fairly obvious, we're all the same inside. If that bothered you I guess that's on you.

(72,131 posts)In the words of the Army surgeon general, For reasons not biologically convincing but which are commonly recognized as psychologically important in America, it is not deemed advisable to collect and mix caucasian and [N]egro blood indiscriminately.
<snip>
After three months of uproar, the military changed their position slightlyinstead of refusing black peoples blood outright, they would instead segregate it from the white supply. Meanwhile, they doubled down on the party line, suggesting that all those who disagreed with this policy were undermining the war effort. Letters from thousands of white constituents appeared on the desks of Congressmen, expressing concerns about multiracial transfusions and supporting the separation. Politicians described those against it as crackpots, Communists, and parlor pinks.
In the absence of clear scientific evidence to support their decision, blood segregation appeared to work largely as a way to calm cultural fears of contagion, writes historian Holly Tucker.

(1,070 posts)This is what divides a political party.
Arguments like this over eggs, the inauguration, skin color, and I could go on. If we do not fix these divisions within a political party then the Repuklicans will walk all over us in the elections.
Start becoming UNITED instead of DIVIDED and then We can go a long way.

(1,070 posts)It is so disappointing to see that happen to something you care about. That is the kind of thing the Repukelicans do to the whole country, not us.

(6,307 posts)What people are really seeing with "race" is slight genetic variations due to previously isolated populations. However, even white skin is a recent trait (in terms of overall human history). Now that the world is interconnected, as it's becoming less and less common for someone to "look like they came from somewhere," the concept of race as an identifying trait is becoming increasingly archaic.
It isn't real. There's no reason to differentiate or classify by it. I think we should dump the classification of race entirely and shed our national obsession with it.

(27,995 posts)Very beautiful shells. But still the same on the inside.
When I taught pre-K I would do this demonstration, asking the children to predict what they thought the inside the brown, blue and white eggs looked like and charting the answers before cracking them open. I'd end the lesson by saying, "just like people, our skin looks different from each other, but inside we look the same."

(23,259 posts)for a dozen organic, free-range, no antibiotic or hormone brown eggs. When she comes to visit, I get her Kroger's Simple Truth free-range, etc for no more than $2.79/dozen.
My other daughter lives locally and is keeping a flock of chickens, which lay brown eggs. Later this spring, I'll be selling what she doesn't use for $2/doz.
I used to want to eat just store eggs, not for flavor, just because they were distant from their origin
But I am over that and will eat any eggs.

not sweet little cute chicks.
Who is the devil's spawn here ?
They must be an advocate for abortion.
That egg was not carried to full term when the chicks would have pecked their way out of the shell.
Can we holler and scream and stomp our feet about that. This - this - this - RAW NAKED ABORTION.

(24,026 posts)(as I gaze out at my coop with the chickens stuck inside because of the snow) it is all about what the hens eat and if they have exposure to sunlight... the yolks are much richer when given opportunity

(16,296 posts)how do you crack open your soft-boiled egg- big side or pointy side?
?itok=1mNP2yZt
Did you know, people have died fighting for the right to crack their eggs at the end of their own choosing:
"It is computed that eleven thousand persons have at several times suffered death, rather than submit to break their eggs at the smaller end. "
A heart to the first person getting the reference.
