John Edwards was indicted for his attorney/friend (Fred Baron) paying $200K in Rielle Hunter's expenses in order to get her to cover up an affair during his presidential campaign.

And importantly, although he was never convicted, he also wasn't acquitted either. It was declared a mistrial. The case against Trump is significantly stronger than the one against Edwards.
