Gov Scott said Florida isn't a violent state

I was listening to the Rachel Maddow podcast this morning and heard his statements from last night.

My brain just stopped ...something broke. My mouth started flapping a response to the comment but no words came out.

Then the stupid comment about how the shooting was done by "evil" ..as in a 19 yr old human being not by pervasive gun culture promoted by the NRA.

We have to stop dehumanizing mass shooters...their actions yes are evil, but by referring to a person as an entity - as evil, it's basically saying it was some weird ass fluke no one could see coming.

Except this can be seen coming...this is the 18th SCHOOL shooting (because we have so many we can categorize them) this year.

Florida isn't a violent state my ass. America isn't a violent country...the stupid just breaks my brain.

I will not give Florida any of my hard-earned money until it turns blue and starts acting blue.

He was adopted - his adopted father died when he was four, he was declared autistic at 11, his adopted mother died a few months ago - he was violent, killed animals, apparently abused a girlfriend and then got into a fight with her new boyfriend leading to his expulsion from this school. On top of that he had access to weapons.
Apparently it's harder to access a handgun in Florida than an AR-15 (by age).

in almost every state. In most states, you can walk out of the store with one right after paying for it, and the ammo and extra magazines you purchased at the same time. If you pass the instant background check, it's yours.

There are waiting periods before taking possession of handguns in most states. Not so, though, for the most lethal weapons available to civilians in this country.

I don't excuse his actions, we all have choices but sometimes the cards can be so stacked against someone. Like how many red flags needed to be waved?

My empathy stops when someone takes their pain out on someone else...but I still grieve for the missed opportunities to mitigate the hurt.

I don't like defending killers but there are people on this planet with more baggage than an airport carousel.
