Media had actual sources that confirmed. One of which was the leader of the white supremecist group themselves. Not sure what you do about it when you get this sort of tip, and get it confirmed by actual sources.

So the news was correctly reported - a real person, Jordan Jereb of the "Republic of Florida", said Cruz was a member. 4chan jerks may have suggested the hoax to Jereb, but it was a report of what a real white supremacist organisation claimed. Fuck knows what Jereb thought he was showing by going along with it.

Just because he is not a member of a white supremacist group it is not the same as not being a white supremacist in general.

I’d like to see the shooter himself deny being a white supremacist. He's still alive and he's a grown man. Let's hear it from him. There is, however, lots of other evidence showing him to be a racist, antisemite, white supremacist.

I believe the trolls created the hoax to get everyone doubting the real evidence of his views.
