Romney: a thrill to "look out the backside of Ten Downing Street

15.32

Romney is now addressing the press outside Downing Street... rather strangely he just said it was a thrill to "look out the backside of Ten Downing Street and see the Olympics." Odd choice of words and proof that Britain and the US are divided by their common language.

If Romney was a Brit, he'd have been a Bullingdon boy as well:

Membership is by invitation only, and prohibitively expensive for most, given the need to pay for the uniform, dinners and damages.

this reflects that rmoney is unable to speak extemporaneously and make sense. Seems as if there's a problem somewhere in his brain, framing thoughts and connecting suitable words to them.

I'm not suggesting this because he's repug, but just oberving. Maybe related to him not really being comfortable in his 'skin?'

Thoughts?

on the link.. Geez what a difference

I just think Romney is not a real person and lives in a gated community of his mind. Some Rich do very well at speaking to us peasants not Mitt.

But seriously, what an odd turn of phrase for a supposedly sophisticated grown man to use in public.
It's common to use the term "I'll look out the back" when referring to looking at something in the back yard or behind the referenced object, but never "look out the backside". It just sounds awkward, especially with the common connotation of the word "backside".

When you use colloquialisms in the general public, you just have to remember a good percentage of your audience has the maturity of an average 12 year old public school boy. Especially in Great Britian. Can't wait to hear what Graham Norton would say about the Romney comments.
