For those of you not planted in front of a TV, the kids in Tallahassee are going off! Knocking down the bs NRA memes, calling out Republicans for the inactivity, calling out the FL legislature, calling out the idiot posters claiming they are actors.
This one is going to leave a mark.

(8,200 posts)What a contrast to the Republican redneck scum. These Repukians are beyond contempt. The Repuks are led by charlatan politicians who prey on a pack of ignorant nincompoops. These ignoramuses are being robbed blind by the huskers who are padding their pockets. The phony evangelical ministers are naturally their comrades since they are in the same business of fleecing the suckers.
I pray that I will be around to see these kids mature and completely devastate the Republican criminal enterprise.

(8,200 posts)Americans who are truly concerned about the future of the nation must come to the sad realization that the Republican Party is dedicated to advancing fascist principles. They have absolutely no qualms in spreading absolute lies to advance their evil intentions. Nothing is sacred in their quest. It no exaggeration that they are the enemy of democratic principles and strive to establish a dictatorship of the oligarchy.

(16,162 posts)They should NOT have to be doing this.
WE should have stopped the NRA long ago.
RandomAccess
(5,210 posts)don't feel too bad. Yes, we should have stopped them -- in fact, never should have allowed the NRA to get as powerful as they have.
But THIS is their time, their destiny. THIS time they have all the momentum, which is a funny thing that often happens in conjunction with action but not always -- as we've seen this time around. They had the magical combination of a number of students with incredible leadership and oratory skills and a knack for activism, plus lots of very favorable media, plus determination and commitment. It was as if they were made for this time.

(27,794 posts)Most of us here have picketed, carried petitions, pounded yard signs, walked door to door, prepared endless mailers, and phonebanked for our candidates.
I've called my representatives and Republicans about various issues till I'm blue in the face.
The forces arrayed against progress span the generations. This is the time and cause for these kids because yes, they face slaughter in the schoolyard, and it's unacceptable. In the 60s, young men faced slaughter in an unnecessary and immoral war, and they did do something about it, ending the draft.
I hope, hope that this action succeeds, but they can't go blaming every previous generation out of hand.

"There comes a time
When we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all
We can't go on
Pretending day-by-day
That someone, somewhere soon make a change
We're all a part of God's great big family
And the truth, you know, love is all we need
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me."

(5,810 posts)Into a force for change. The tide is turning and anyone who ignores their movement does it at their own peril. They have a huge task but they wont be stopped easily.
As a person who witnessed another person murdered by her husband and very nearly became one of his victims, as well, I would love to see them reach out to anyone who has been impacted by gun violence. We are an army of people who know first hand (as they do) the horror of how quickly an ordinary moment becomes a tragedy. Most of us want to see changes in the gun laws and often feel powerless as an individual to make our voice heard. With the momentum of this new movement of young people, we may have a real chance to bring about change. I hope they will recruit those of us who feel like they do and understand what they experienced. We want to help, too!

(10,749 posts)These kids' parents vote, and some R voters are going to switch.
More important, these kids are going to vote in a year, or two, or three. And - correct me if my confidence is misplaced - but they are not going to vote for republicans.
And most important, I think these kids are going to be running for office when they are no longer kids. And I can't wait.

(1,332 posts)I'm assuming you're not talking about the kids talking with the big orange idiot.
I haven't heard theword NRA yet. Not once. No mention of the NRA buying politicians. Nothing. there have been some students talking about the easy accessibility of buy guns. Talking about Australia, Talking about Israel. But most of the adults are just talking about beefing up school security and mental
illness and that sort of thing. I wish more of the students would talk about the easy ability to buy assault rifles. And I notice that little fire brand with the shaved head wasn't there. She would have given trump what for. Which is why I assume she wasn't invited. Watching some of these adults fall all over trump is sickening.

(11,514 posts)Older Americans may not completely comprehend the daily horror faced by American schoolchildren--that fact that they may be randomly executed by someone with a gun, particularly a weapon of war designed to efficiently shred the most people in the least amount of time. How traumatizing that must be! When went to school, our biggest worry was whether or not we had a date for the weekend. Today, we've let money and the politicians that are bought an paid for by it destroy the moral fabric of our country. No one is safe anywhere--in a school, in a church, at a concert, at the mall. What is dawning on Americans is that there isn't a body count number high enough to stop these monsters. They have no conscience and therefore no shame. We will have to oust them from office ourselves--each and every one of us. Let's get started and create a wave of decency take our country back.

(2,259 posts)There should be people manning tables with voter registration forms for all students who are 18 or about to turn 18. Register them to vote! Tell them to vote out the NRA whores. Then with every registration, impress on the students that registering is step one. Step two is getting out and actually voting. Tell them to find a candidate to believe in and work in their campaign. Have them encourage other students to register to vote. Months before the election, make sure all eligible registered voters know where their polling places are. Make sure they have a way to get there. On election day, every student eligible and registered to vote should make sure all other eligible registered students have a way to get to the polls. Have them take that day off and make sure everyone has a way to get to the polls.
If they truly want to be heard, they must vote.
