(779 posts)Just watching Peter King on CNN, he is something on the Homeland Security caucus, that would be the same Peter King who was a fundraiser for the IRA terrorists who planted bombs in the UK (remember the Grande Hotel in Brighton) and the people attending
a service for the war dead in Ireland, and let us not forget the bomb in Hyde Park, London. How lucky we are to have hi in Homeland
Security and not in prison.

(1,142 posts)I know many on this site think NPR has sold its soul to "the evil right" But how often has their reporting been spot on? You hear both sides of the story - maybe not on the same day or same program - but over the course of a week, the facts are put front and center - without hysterical drama or shouting - for the listener to discern.

Horrid.
But it is not a photo of him signing HJ Resolution 40
https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-joint-resolution/40/text
It would seem that NPR/PBS used the photo as an example of his smug face when he signs a bill but not the particular bill in question.

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump has signed a resolution blocking an Obama-era rule that would have prevented an estimated 75,000 people with mental disorders from buying guns.
The rule was part of former President Barack Obamas push to strengthen the federal background check system in the wake of the 2012 Newtown, Connecticut shooting.
It required the Social Security Administration to send in the names of beneficiaries with mental impairments who also need a third-party to manage their benefits.
But lawmakers, the National Rifle Association and even the American Civil Liberties Union criticized the rule, saying it unfairly stigmatized the disabled and infringed on their constitutional right to bear arms.

(33,982 posts)the start.
It discriminated against people with mental health issues without ANY regard for whether they might be dangerous. No data to support it.
The ACLU was right to oppose the rule, and it was right to repeal it. Doesn't mean we can't craft better rules/laws around mental health restrictions, but that particular one was crap.

A little over a month after his inauguration, on Feb. 28, 2017, President Trump signed HJ Resolution 40, a bill that made it easier for people with mental illness to obtain guns. CBS News then asked the White House to release the photograph of Mr. Trump signing the bill, making the request a total of 12 times.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders finally responded to repeated emails and phone calls with a one-line note on April 19, 2017, writing to CBS News, "We don't plan to release the picture at this time."
A White House photographer confirmed to CBS News that there are photos of the bill signing. Those photos won't be seen unless the Trump administration releases them, though, because the White House is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

The Reuters' photo caption doesn't match the AP article.
H.R. 225 (115th Congress) is a bill titled "Restoration of the U.S.-Russia Polar Bear Conservation Fund Act"
https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/225
Here is a link to H.J.Res.40, "Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Social Security Administration relating to Implementation of the NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007."

As president, he doesn't feel that this is "OUR" problem, as in, our nation's problem. This is your problem America. He has nothing to do with it.

You don't want to read the pro AR-15 arguments about how it helps kids learn discipline and responsibility and puts a smile on their face when firing lots of rounds effortlessly and accurately with very little recoil. Almost as if it were designed for soldiers to kill their enemies.
