I am so saddened the mentally ill are pawns in this debate

Hopefully the truly mentality ill won't be in a state to comprehend what viscousness this scapegoating is.
People are cruel.

Ban the weapons.

are just pawns for the GOP to sacrifice in order to maintain power and wealth. They will support any evil to keep NRA funding and maintain their power.

"The damn kids today".

It's been going on for decades.
I'm 61 and have heard it my entire life through many generations.
I always cringed hearing it. Still do.

While some mentally ill people are dangerous they are far, far more likely to be victims. The problem is military style assault weapons and high capacity magazines. I've had several "conversations" with folks about this and have gotten very proficient at saying that.

some who are vulnerable and defenseless not to mention the victims of crimes much more than perpetrators.

People are indeed cruel, throughout history and never reluctant to scapegoat, shun and punish the innocent and 'weak.'

The Eugenics scourge and Nazi T-4 Program, examples from more modern history.

If you are deemed mentally ill you should not be able to own a gun, I don't think that is debatable that they can't be trusted with firearms.
