Maybe you could share your story with the NRA crowd?

(182 posts)A .223 round is generally considered sub-optimal for shooting deer. Are you expecting me to believe a hit from a .223 (5.56) blew a hog to smithereens? I shoot .223 ARs. I'm calling BS.

(1,226 posts)Just because KS didn't allow anything smaller than 243 to hunt deer. Didn't really make them less edible than a 22. This seems more like a tall tales competition entry than a credible account of an actual event.

A .50 cal would not do the damage you describe
I have hunted prairie dogs with the .223 out of a bolt action using 55gr soft point and they weren't "vaporized".

(706 posts)The pigs/boars just drop. No vaporizing. You need a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range for vaporization.

(1,971 posts)The .223 round is smaller, and has less powder than the 30-30 cartridge.
At 100 yards the .223 round only delivers about 76% of the energy of the 30-30 round.
There is no way a .223 round will "virtually vaporize" a 280 pound hog, and would do way less damage than the 30-30 round.
Good fiction though.

(5,210 posts)I see a number of naysayers, but I have no reason not to believe you. I've also read the accounts of several ER doctors who worked on the Parkland kids last week. What I remember most is a shot to the liver did so much damage "there was nothing left to repair" so it became a fatal wound.
I'm really sorry you were traumatized, but I'm so glad you've shared it with us and hope you'll share it with others too. MANY, many others.

(22,655 posts)A couple days ago you could not use an AR-15 to hunt deer because it turn the meat into hamburger, yesterday gets nearly took the head off of the deer. Today it mostly vaporizes a large hog. I expect by tomorrow in AR-15 was used to destroy Alderaan.
Somehow the rifle manages to exceed physics as we understand them

Tofu and yoga now, huh? Sounds like quite the lifestyle change.
Just wondering... can venison be considered organic when the deer are eating round up ready soy beans and gmo corn?
And.... just how many times did you shoot that pig?
This entire post is suspicious.

(5,202 posts)but the op screams BS. We are to believe that this guy was fine hunting and field dressing his wild game, but when he saw a pig after shooting it with an AR15 was so traumatized that he started doing yoga to cope and started eating tofu? really? He might as well say he has started wearing birkenstocks and driving a Prius.

The size of the forces on the first object equals the size of the force on the second object. The direction of the force on the first object is opposite to the direction of the force on the second object. Forces always come in pairs - equal and opposite action-reaction force pairs.
The force required to propel a 55gr bullet to such a velocity that it had the energy to vaporize a 280 lb. wild boar that was over 90 yards away would have done you in.

(39,074 posts)no way. It is capable of firing a lot of rounds but it is just an common ordinary small caliber cartridge not any super powerful round.
I am totally against civilians having them but not because they are super powerful, it's massive amount of rounds they can fire. Hey
if they had a 5 round fixed magazine I wouldn't have any objection to them. If they had a 5round fixed magazine few people would want one.

(36,631 posts)Where do all the "recs" come from on this thing?
Yesterday, I noticed water getting up over the road to my house. This is an inconvenience for the U.S. mail carrier, so I took my trusty .22 revolver, aimed and fired 1 shot. Instantly, a crater appeared on the uphill side of the road large enough to hold all the excess water. I was happy until 3 school buses and a 777 full of nuns and puppies disappeared into the murky water forever.
The end.
Get back under your bridge.
Edit:
