I've Seen a RW Meme Going Around Pointing Out the US Isnt even in the top 10 for Mass Shootings

Now before I begin I will say that I noticed that it's from dailywire, so who knows. But they quote a study done on worldwide mass shootings between the years of 2009-2015 where they measure the "death rate per million. By doing this we come in 11th in the world. Not gonna link to the story, but have seen it shared now 3 times on facebook. So who has a higher death rate than the US: Norway, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Slovakia, Finland, Belgium, Czech Republic. They also say there's a 27% higher death rate per mass shooting in Europe than the U.S. Its like you can hear the facts being manipulated to meet the conclusion they wanted to prove.

Here's one list of just plain ol' shootings, including suicides and accidents. It admits it might be flawed, but I doubt the other one is more accurate.

Do you have a link? Much easier to assess the bullshit factor that way.

PS I hope RW isn’t trying to compare us to some of the trouble spots in the world like Thailand rather than comparing us to stable democracies.

Guns per 100 people

Norway 31.3
USA 101.1 (this is low, as I have seen the Washington Post estimate 357 million guns plus)
UK 6.6

Really shouldn't post bullshit without links to real empirical data. Otherwise, we'd be a Fox-Breitbart kinda site.

knew that going in, so why post this twisted portrayal in detail here?

Under the circumstances, perhaps it's better that you did not provide a link sending DUers to a very dishonest far/extreme-right site.

United States
Main article: Mass shootings in the United States
Total U.S. deaths by year in spree shootings: 1982 to current (ongoing).[29]

The U.S. has more mass shootings than any other country.[30][31][32][33]

In one study, it has been estimated that 31% of public mass shootings occur in the U.S., although it has only 5% of the world's population.[34] CNN cites a study by criminologist A. Lankford that finds that "there are more public mass shootings in the United States than in any other country in the world".[18] The study concludes that "The United States and other nations with high firearm ownership rates may be particularly susceptible to future public mass shootings, even if they are relatively peaceful or mentally healthy according to other national indicators."[35] Criminologist Gary Kleck criticized Adam's findings stating the study fails to provide evidence that gun ownership increases mass shootings.[36] Mass shootings have also been observed to be followed by an increase in the purchase of weapons, but this phenomenon seems to be driven by a minority since neither gun owners nor non-owners report an increased feeling of needing guns.[37]

Maybe conservatives are picking certain years.

But over the long hall, we are number 1.

Suddenly, the authors decide to change the criteria of what a "Mass shooting" is mid report from 4 deaths to 15 in order to get the frequency numbers to prove Obama wrong. I'll look at this closer, but I can tell you these guys make Trump look like a saint.

I have to question exactly what they are trying to prove in showing other countries also have a mass killing problem.....is it all about proving Obama wrong? You know, the black president?

Remind me about the 130+ killed in Paris on Nov, 13th, 2015.

They should put all the war zones.

And then call it mass murder instead and use abortion numbers.

Why bother wasting time on these assholes who are just desperately trying to block sensible reforms to gun laws?

It’s useful to have advance warning of the latest right wing lies so we can have the data ready to immediately refute them.

I have no idea why some people seem to be attacking you for this.
