The way I see it Manafort has two choices

SHRED
@Hobie_SHRED
#Manafort has two choices as I see it in light of Gates flipping.

1. Cooperate with #Mueller and risk him and his family's safety to the Russian mob.

2. Don't cooperate with #Mueller and face prison the rest of his life.#MuellerTime

And that is the one he is obviously choosing:

---Get a pardon from Trump.

I have no doubt that he has been promised a pardon if he just keeps his mouth shut. He could put Trump in jail. Why would anyone think that this is not going to be the end result of his situation?

Also, that State charges are also pending which can't be pardoned.

Maybe my reaction is too simplistic, but I see him stonewalling and figuring he does better with Trump protecting him than going against Trump and getting 10-15 years anyway.

35. pardon of state charges
Sat Feb 24, 2018, 01:48 PM

Pardon of state charges can typically be issued by the Governor of the State. Both the State of New York and the Commonwealth of Virginia have Democratic Governors who are not willing to turn a blind eye towards these crimes, so it isn't much hope for Manafort there.

life in the pursuit of money. I'm sure it is nice to have three houses and all the accoutrements of that lifestyle. Unfortunately I guess at some point you will probably have to pay the piper. That involves as you said "decisions, decisions" with really no upside.
I think a more modest lifestyle may have lead to better sleeping at night.

His pursuit of the finer things in life led him to make some very risky decisions. He flew under the radar for some time, but then he got swept up into the tRump campaign and the scrutiny on him increased dramatically. How a so-called SMART GUY could have allowed himself to get himself in such a position is beyond me. On the other hand.....Putin has his ways of getting what he wants, no? So the pressure from Derypaska and Putin must have been enormous to do what they required of him. Dangling the canceling of his enormous debt was too good to pass up.

I’ve said it before. This story is gonna make a hell of a movie plot line.

never seems to be enough and we can see the consequences as he should have. Unfortunately, it seems people who have this burning desire for more, more, more either never consider the ultimate sad endings to their quest or somehow think their wealth and power will enable them to get away with it. As you said, once you raise your profile especially at the national level and couple that with a corrupt administration you invite scrutiny. Does not end well.

I might beg to be locked up. The possibilities of Putin or one of his stooges slipping some poisoned brownies to Manafort are endless. I dare say his anal sphincter is as tight as a drum when he goes anywhere. He knows.

Give Mueller any reason to send him to the Ukraine; they want their money back that he helped pilfer. How will he fair in the Ukraine justice system and do they have the resources to keep him from being poisoned/falling out a window/car accident/mugging gone bad?

If he even made it there. I would not want to be on a plane where Manafort is a passenger. Sure they want their money back, but they won't be heartbroken if he ended up dead.

Manafort's best case of survival is to give Mueller what he wants. The Government puts his family in hiding and him in jail.

They can reach him in prison, retribution and a warning to anyone who is thinking of stealing from them. Witness protection for he and his family seems the only option but where can you put a guy who has been in the news for months.

unlike Gates and Flynn. By speaking out against Gates' plea deal, Manafort thinks by alleging he isn't cooperating puts him in a safer position. I wonder if Mueller's team will secretly visit him at his home to discuss plea deal since he is under house arrest and it would be quite obvious if he were allowed out to meet with special counsel.

In America, repercussions are for non-Republicans.

They got away with relative wrist-slaps for Iran-Contra, the Ginned-Up War on Terr'r, S&L and crashing the economy twice, they'll get away with this.
