Police say Florida student posing with rifle on social media is not a threat

A week after a Florida gunman killed 17 people at his former high school, a Miami student flashed his assault-style rifle on social media, but police say he wasn’t a threat.

The student, who wasn’t named, attends Terra Environmental Research Institute in West Kendall and he appeared in a Snapchat post brandishing a rifle with a caption that read: “Here’s a fat F--K YOU to everyone.”

School police spoke with the student and his parents before determining he wasn’t a threat to others, the Miami New Times reported. No charges were filed.

“Miami-Dade Schools Police thoroughly investigated this incident, and although the student’s actions clearly demonstrated a lack of judgment, they did not constitute a threat,” a Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokesman said in a statement to the Miami New Times. “School administrators will be meeting with the student’s parents to discuss possible disciplinary measures, as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct.”

The incident comes as over a dozen students across the country have been arrested for threatening to attack their schools since the Parkland, Fla., shooting on Feb. 14. Suspect Nikolas Cruz, 19, was charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has been under fire for its handling of the response. A deputy who stood outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during the rampage was armed and did nothing to stop it, Sheriff Scott Israel said Thursday. That deputy, Scot Peterson, resigned from the force.

about wanting to shoot up his school, or shoot any other person? Because, just posing with a gun and saying "F everyone" isn't exactly a threat.

keep a whole lot better eye on him than they did on Nikolas Cruz. He blatantly and overtly stated, using his actual name, that he wanted to shoot up a school, and some FBI moron couldn't do a Facebook search for him????

That's unbelievable.
