Lots of information appears on Democratic Underground indicating anxiety over the Koch's and other very wealthy individuals contributing huge amounts of money opposing democratic candidates in their bid for the 2018 congressional and senitorial elections.
Among other things the Citizen United ruling states that corporations, individuals and unions can give unlimited amounts of money
to candidtes of their choice.
Sounds equal in theory, union contributions versus the richest individuals and corporations in the world. Hardly so, unions have been on the decline for many years and can hardly compete in the moneyed arena of big business, big money and the corruption that this inequality generates. The Supreme Court is currently deciding on weather or not workers need contribute to unions in order to receive union benefits. The case Janus vs. AFSCME will decide if workers can receive union benefits while not making union contributions. Justice Neil Gorsuch appears to be the deciding vote in this decision. His ultra right wing bias
will certainly go against the unions and therefore deminish unions as an effective defense against the might and power of the greedy capatiistic class.
The deck appears stacked against the general population, the 99%. What's the solution aginst this growing tide of inequality. Will America become some pitiful two class nation of haves and have nots? What a disturbing thought. As long as the Koch's, Miller"s Peterson's et al have their way we as a democratic nation are at peril.
Solutions????

(58,755 posts)1. One counter action that would help...
but was vetoed by the Repubs in Congress, was disclosure. The SC decision says does not prohibit laws requiring disclosure. At the very least, we could eliminate the "dark" money and force all candidates to list, in an open forum, all donations from all sources.
That should be a priority should we win the Congress. I doubt an amendment would ever fly, it's too high a hurdle. But we should be able to demand full disclosure of all donations.

Vote the bastards out. Elect Democratic candidates then pressure them to do the right thing.
