You should be able to edit the thread title. Try copy and pasting this:

That html entity should display as the o-umlaut. But if you preview your post, it will turn the html entity into the character and then be lost again when you post - just hit the back button on your browser to return to the pre-previewed post, or paste the text into the title field again after previewing.
