(31,170 posts)I was supposed to be going in for an hour long procedure to put in a stint for a bowel stricture, but they found a huge mess when they opened me up, and they kept me knocked out with some sort of vac thing on my abdomen that let them do multiple surgeries. I was in the trauma area for 9 days. I was sooo pumped full of fluids that I looked much heavier than I actually was when I finally woke. The nurses looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I weighed 130. One night nurse had two days off, and I was given diuretics while she was gone. She was shocked when she saw me back down to my normal weight.
The whole thing was much harder on my fella than it was for me. I slept through the worst of it while he was living in the trauma waiting area for all those days...

(10,197 posts)when she had congestive heart failure. The country doctors didn't know what was happening. They brought her out and released her less than 8 hours later she was back in the hospital. I think they sent her home to die. But I was too fast a driver for them. I got her in both times while she was still conscious. The 1st time the cops chased me down the highway as she cried I can't breath. They finally sent her to another hospital where they diagnosed and repaired her problem.
So true about it being worse on the fella standing outside watching. She doesn't remember any of the 20 days. I remember every awful fearful moment. Our children still worry about her falling back into a coma and call much more often. If they don't reach us right away, you can bet there will be 37 missed calls when we get back. We're still landline users, the mountains block the other signals.

(31,170 posts)to help her. I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you all. I can relate to mountains and cell service roo. We use internet phones for that very reason and my little sister freaks out if we aren't reachable for any length of time.
The worst of it, hospital-wise, for us, was a few years back and Bill still carries stress about it all.
I'm lucky that our local hospital knows their limitations, and has shipped me over to Knoxville when they cant safely help me. But Bill still freaks every time he is coming home after running errands in the next town, and sees an ambulance coming from our city and heading towards the hospital. I don't think he will ever truly shake the experience. I woke up with super long fingernails and so bloated I didn't look like the same person...he had to deal with standing beside me while I looked like a corpse during all those short visits when they let loved ones into to the trauma room. Every time I even THINK about getting cranky with him about some stupid thing, I remember that he slept in a chair for nine days and went thru hell.
I hope that you and your family stay healthy and happy for a loooong long time. <3

Medical bills are estimated to top $1 million, which is a travesty itself.

(17,644 posts)What is bad about assault rifles is the velocity of the bullets which damage everything around them that they hit. Sometimes a person may be hit in the arm and his heart is stopped due to the shock wave. They should be banned, they are meant to kill and kill only.
