Kathy Griffin Thanks Bill Maher for Being One of the Only People Who Publicly Supported Her

On Friday night, Kathy Griffin sat down with Bill Maher, one of her first major interviews since she had that infamous photoshoot of her holding up President Trump‘s severed head last spring.

Before being asked anything, Griffin began by thanking Maher for “being one of the first and only people to publicly support me and say what happened to me was bullsh*t.”

“Because I got texts from celebrities that were like, ‘Um don’t tell anybody I sent you this text, but I support you all the way, I love you’…. Jerry Seinfeld,” Griffin said.

After the audience gasped, Griffin clarified that she was “kidding” about Seinfeld.

This was scary, the way she described the harassment.

and it extended to his daughters, wife and family.

Eastwood mimicked slitting President Obama's throat at the republican convention.

That does not in anyway excuse Griffin tasteless and not funny garbage she did, but that was rightfully condemned by both sides of the aisle

The insults and harassment that President Obama received was mostly condemned from Democrats.

The double standard that exists in this country is a disgrace.

One thing the trump presidency has demonstrated is that the country has a lot of sexists, bigots, and racists, and unlike the media coverage of George Wallace, and his racist campaign where the media then largely condemned it, this time the media gave it mostly a free pass, and by doing so have legitimized it.

I am not a fan of Griffin, and I thought what she did was bad taste, and stupid, but the double standard that exists in the country is outrageous

She said she was left with about three friends. If a RW comedian would've done a photo with Obama's head, Republicans wouldn't have reacted in the same way and the comedian wouldn't have been put on the No Fly List and INTERPOL's watch list and investigated for two months. Who doesn't know there's a double standard?

I can say, honestly, because I have defended the right of right-wingers to have an opinion even if I disagree with it. I would have said it was vile and in bad taste. Like I said the nooses and the pictures of Obama dressed up like a native off Gilligan's island were in bad taste and vile.

Now, I did think it was okay for Ted Nugent to get a call from the Secret Service because his rhetoric was pretty much a call to arms for some people. There is a difference between being vile and in bad taste and saying things that you know damn well some person will take seriously. So I take issue with comment from people who say 2nd Amendment remedies are appropriate. That is a thinly veiled call to arms.

No one could possibly take the picture she made as a call to behead 45.

The show discussed the weaponization of offense-taking, including using it as a route to political power; the narcissism of small differences and perversion of priorities (you might agree with someone 95% of the time but become enraged by the other 5%); you can compliment a sunrise and get angry comments about why you aren't talking about the sunset. Sigh.

While he didn't agree with the content of what Eastwood was saying, he sure as heck praised him for its delivery

To some Maher has gone off the far end for such things as coming very close to anti-Muslim rhetoric with his broad based generalizations, his use of racial epitaphs, anti-vaxer positions, and for some the last straw was when Maher promoted the HIV Quack, Samir Chachoua on his show.

In the end it will be the public who determines who they will watch, but without a doubt the media, fairly or unfairly influences that decision

What Griffin did was way beyond the pale. It was only half a step away from posing with a Ryder truck full of explosives next to a Republican daycare center. She earned every last bit of condemnation and harassment she got.
