The legislative blitz that rocketed the $1.5 trillion tax cut through Congress in less than two months created a host of errors and ambiguities in the law that businesses big and small are just now discovering and scrambling to address.
Companies and trade groups are pushing the Treasury Department and Congress to fix the laws consequences, some intended and some not, including provisions that disadvantage certain farmers, hurt restaurateurs and retailers and could balloon the tax bills of large multinational corporations.

Democratic Politicians should not help Republicans fix their mess. They did not want the democratic politicians' input when the GOP wrote it.

(22,166 posts)What idiots. I'm sure that they had most of this legislation on the books for some time and pulled out of the air when they finally got a chance to vote on it (gop). So, no excuse at all in failing miserably in doing their job. They should get a black mark on their report card.
And you're right, the democrats shouldn't help these idiots fix their own mistake. They'll need the democrats to probably fix the errors.
Again, another example of Congressional and presidential total failure. This could, in some ways, seriously damage some industries, although I suspect that the IRS (it may or may not) when they write their rules on how to interpret Congress' intentions w/ the tax law of 2018 via the tax code, somewhat alleviate some concerns, but I somewhat don't think so.

(9,273 posts)They refused to tweak the ACA, except to make things worse of course. Legislate in haste, repent at leisure.

(11,175 posts)There are things in the ACA that need fixing, such as setting the statutory authority for the CSR payments so that the adverse court decision on that score doesn't help undermine the whole structure.
And, of course, any fix to the tax bill should include reinstating the individual mandate -- a tax bill provision that does even more to undermine the ACA structure.
I'd be OK with the Democrats saying, "Yes, we'll help you fix the tax law, and we won't filibuster the amending bill, provided that it also includes fixes we need on health care."
