(54,335 posts)East coast----well, east bank, really (of the Rhein River). I haven't seen anything yet to take the wind out of my sails. I saw some math by John King analyzing the one unknown factor in PA-18--the outstanding absentee ballots. By his reckoning, Saccone would need the win more than 70% of them to beat Lamb. It's possible, but they are from counties where Saccone won from 52% to 56% of the vote. So, while it's possible, the likelihood is extremely small.

(776 posts)Its midnight here. So I got a Rhein river question for you. Is it pretty easy to drive along and see sites? I was wanting to try and do at least two days along the river in a rental car.
DFW
(54,335 posts)It's a very easy drive, just don't do it when everyone else is doing it.
There are winding riverside roads down from Mainz to Koblenz with just spectacular scenery and towns. Medieval castles on the hilltops and Roman-era vineyards up the steep sides of the hills. Up where I am (Düsseldorf area) it is flatter, and the scenery is less fun to watch (at least you won't have an accident from gawking). But there is still plenty to see and do. Düsseldorf and Köln ("Cologne" ) are great towns for day trips, and if you like archaeology, the Neander Valley (German: "Neandertal" ), has a wonderful museum on the site where THE big discovery was made. It's about a 20 minute drive south of where I live.

(776 posts)So trying to pinpoint where exactly we want to go with such little time. I'm not too worried about hills and traffic. More worried that neither of us can read a lick of German haha. As long as I can get some cool castle pics and get to feel a little of my German roots I will be happy

I took Steve2470 to see it 3 weeks ago when he was here.
I really wish I had more time to spend there. The plan is to fly into Amsterdam head straight to Germany. Drive south a few days and end up at pinkpop. Head back to Amsterdam and fly to Paris a few days. Fly to London and end up at Stonehenge for summer solstice. Hop over to Ireland and explore then fly home from Dublin.
Does that sound too ambitious for 2 weeks?

(54,335 posts)Remember, I'm in a different country almost every day in a typical work week, so to me that is like a leisurely schedule. However, for vacation, I think I'd prefer to take it a LITTLE easier. I'd also reconsider your decision to fly between Amsterdam and Paris, and then Paris to London. Especially, considering that the airports of Amsterdam, Paris and London are WAY the hell outside of town (different if you're going straight to Stonehenge from Heathrow instead of into town first). Schipol has the best train connections into town. Paris and London are cumbersome, unless you fly into the London City Airport (I never have, since I don't stay in the Financial District).
Look into the Thalys train from Amsterdam to Paris. City Center to City Center, and you get to see some of the countryside along the way. Also, definitely look into the Eurostar (the Channel Tunnel Train) from Paris to London. Again, city center to city center.
Believe it or not, I have never been to Ireland, close as it is. Just never got around to it.

(776 posts)We were just going to drive to Paris but my buddy from London said we are nuts haha. If we have to shorten up the trip I think we will throw out Paris all together but I really want to go to the Louvre.
I want to see as much as I can but I also don't want to miss what I'm seeing because we are rushing from place to place

(17,493 posts)Old habits die hard. I often am awake until the sun comes up.
I worry that I may be turning into a vampire. Occasionally I check to see if I can still see my reflection in the mirror. I still havent developed any interest in drinking blood but I do like V8. The doctor told me to vitamin D3 because I dont get out in the sun much.
I guess I am just a creature of the night.

(17,493 posts)and sleep a couple more hours in the evening before I went to work.
Occasionally I can break this routine for a short period of time but then I find myself back on the old schedule.
Working the graveyard shift as long as I did is supposed to knock ten years off your life. Im now approaching 72 and still plugging along. My doctor feels I am quite heathy with the exception of degenerative disc disease and being a candidate for a hip replacement.

(26,060 posts)Usually get up around 4:30 but immediately went to my phone to see what happened. Now watching Kornacki whose energy is exhausting to watch. Should have a call soon enough. CNN just did a nice piece on Stephen Hawking - read some great tweets about his passing but mostly just hanging with my kitty waiting for the votes.

(776 posts)They have passed out while scanning all those ballots.... sigh...

(26,060 posts)Switched to CNN. More on Hawking - asked what was the biggest puzzle in the universe, his answer was women. That made me laugh. Kinda nice having all this time to get ready for work.

(776 posts)I am starting to fall apart a little but mentally I never got past 25 haha. We really are only as old as we feel (or act). Age should be measured by age groups and not years. How old are you? oh about middle age...

I'm actually regressing, in a good way.
I used to let stuff roll off like h2o offa duck, but no more.
Everything's not copacetic anymore.
It's battle time. I'll give it what I got and do my level best.
You young'uns stand in the gap when 'we' get pooped out from time to time! K? 👊

(776 posts)I got your back but will need an even younger age group to prop me up lol. I'm always ready to stand up for what's right but we shouldn't have to do it near this much. The pursuit of happiness shouldn't be this hard. Always being smothered by greed. Lets hope our efforts pay off and someday they will get it right.

I dint expect to retire on a white sandy beach with an umbrella decorated drink in one hand, but dammmmit, never expected this 'climate'.
Still an aggressive 'girl' and I'll put up a fight if need be. [Did I just say that?!🙄]
It's not a whole lotta 'noise' yet until more people wake up and smell the conspiracy/treason. Or at the least, running
