Activists and voters with beliefs that ranged from centrist to fairly far left worked together to pull off this Democratic upset in a wildly Republican district. I do not mean just voting for Lamb, but also donating to his campaign and, on the local level, working for it. Their ranks included some actual Republicans disgusted with what Trump stands for, and others who are registered as Independents or even as third party members, along with a wide range of Democrats who have been supportive of different presidential candidates in the past.
Today we should be celebrating the solidarity that brought us victory, not looking for opportunities to score political points by searching for and elevating scattered voices of dissatisfaction with the candidate we all helped carry to victory.

(22,912 posts)on the vast range of issues and priorities rather than looking for fissure cracks to insert dynamite into. I know of a few "Sanders supporters" who do the latter - they can often be found talking to each other at a low traffic discussion forum. I also know a few "Clinton supporters" who do the exact same thing here on DU - from the opposite direction. None of that is helpful to our mutual cause and shared beliefs for America.
Again, I applaud our solidarity that assisted Lamb on the road to his victory

(1,714 posts)how he will vote in the House. He ran on stands that appealed to a lot of disaffected R voters. They aren't going to be happy if/when he votes opposite their views on things like gun control and tax cuts. So will he vote with the Ds, or will he support R issues? It remains to be seen . . .

(5,210 posts)Tom Rinaldo may be right, but LIVING with some of those clearly rightwing positions is going to take a lot. And unfortunately, the truth of the matter is, while people in Congress have "constituents" who may vote them out and thus to whom they cater, their Congressional votes affect EVERYONE.

(22,912 posts)Also that he will vote with Dems far far far far more often than any Republican elected from that district would ever have. I expect he will join with Republicans on some votes, and on those votes I likely will wish that it was possible to elect someone more progressive than Lamb from that district. But for the time being it clearly isn't, so I will take some bad with much good and be thankful for that.
But sure, I will be curious to see when and where he joins with Republicans. That is always data to absorb, but no matter, I am really glad Lamb is heading to Congress.

(89,248 posts)That are in very red areas is that they are one more vote for demicratic control of congress and if we can get that we can have adam Schiff leading intelligence committee instead of nunes.
And democrats have more control over what will and will not come up for a vote.

(22,912 posts)And while I'm at it, I'll even thank the "Trump Democrats" in that PA district (and unfortunately there are many of them) for disregarding the pleas of the man they helped put in office to actually vote for the candidate who legitimately has real integrity this time.
