I used to just see the obnoxious garden-variety bragging-on-one's-kids type. Then it was the elite college/university (Princeton, Hahvahd and Northwestern). Now it's your ADULT CHILD'S bag: "My son is in the Navy" or "I have a daughter who attends William and Mary...Nanny nanny boo boo."
So. Very. Pathetic.

(16,007 posts)When I went to college, I sent my folks a decal for their car: My daughter goes to UNC. I also sent them my first project from an art class, it wound up on their refrigerator right next to my first college report card. Did I mention that I was 46 at the time?

As a parent - and a grandparent - if I want to tout that my son is in the military or my grandchild is an honor student, that's my right and I'll do so proudly. If my bumper sticker bothers you, don't look at it.

(262 posts)But, there were and are occasional ones I'd see on vacation or in a 7-11-bakery or something...and laugh out loud. What I do is purchase it & keep them in a folder for a chuckle or two. I remember where I got em & it serves as a memory for what was going onat the time. Years ago, (dating myself) I had an idea for one & shared with pals. See if you go back this far...The sticker idea...

cause if not i guess you'd find me extremely pathetic. ECU mom, Drexel (Earle Mack School of Law) Mom (i had to make that one myself), someone i love was killed by a drunk driver (I'm a MADD victim advocate), Obama 2012, Vote No on Amendment 1, 99%, equal sign, Turn Off Fox Bad News for America...and, on the window, In Loving Memory Bekah Zask 7-6-80 (turtle instead of a dash) 7-19-01.
i made that last one myself too.
so i'm pathetic. i am also very proud of my children and myself. now that the youngest is in college i almost feel as if my work is done. this is my license plate.

(14 posts)however I must pose this question to you: why do you need to broadcast your successes? You're proud of your kids. Totally natural. Is it not enough, though? It's like that Zen koan--are your kids really successful if no one else knows about it? That is the whole Facebook nonsense: bragging is the name of the game.
Sometimes I wonder if people have a hard time feeling things and the more people they tell, the more it can sink in. I think something is a bit awry.
