(14,971 posts)Btw, Neera Tanden tweeted that Conor Lamb had quite a few ads targeting Paul Ryan, his tax reform and his wanting to cut SS and Medicare to pay for it. It worked for us. Lol.

But Pelosi is a special case
She had been DESPISED by working class repugs for the longest time
Long before (and more hated than) Obama

(10,116 posts)Too many people think that any woman who accomplishes a mans job should be forced out of it so that a more acceptable person (i.e., a man) can take it. And just who should be the Speaker if not Pelosi? There are several promising candidates for the future, but none with her legislative experience. Certainly not Tim Ryan, who is a sore loser. I think Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell are promising, but again, how much experience do they have shepherding legislation through the convoluted House processes?

Anti abortion is based in men who dont want women to be able to have sex without permission.
Republican operatives created that hate as a political tactic. It pretty much is based on nothing she has ever done or said.

(37,648 posts)Instead of standing by another Democrat, he was weak and caved in by saying "Yeah...I don't like her, either." When he should have run a strong ad against the Republicans, particularly about abortion "Some Republicans may say they are pro-life, but it turns out they're only pro-life when it's not for their pregnant girlfriends."
Maher makes a point. Even if Lamb is at odds with some of Pelosi's views, which he probably is since he's moderate and she's progressive, maybe the better approach is to stand up for other Dems, like Republicans do. It looks weak to agree with your opponent's criticism of your own party's leaders.
But it looks like he won, so I guess his ads worked. As long as he supports the Dem Party once he gets into office (except for those couple of issues he takes a different stance on).

(45,579 posts)Saying he doesn't like her in a campaign ad doesn't hurt her. He also shoots AR-15s and other stuff that resonates well in that district.
Liking Pelosi in campaign ads might be better in liberal districts.
