Trump's Republican nomination....what if??

One thing that has always puzzled me is the abnormally large number of candidates at the Republican "debates." If you could call them that. There were actually several better qualified candidates, but with so many people on the stage time to speak was limited. This favored Trump because of his brashness and he quickly became the "strongman" figure. It must have been extremely frustrating to Jeb Bush, John Kasich, et al. It really did seem to me to have that reality show feel and had nothing to do with issues.
Not that it matters now, but it has always seemed strange to me that the format was what it was.

I am relatively new here, so this may have been discussed previously. If so, my apologies.

1. It's a typical format, having all the candidates speak in the same forum.

tRump sure took advantage of it, though!

As far as I know, we haven't had any discussions on this topic, so no worries!

A belated Welcome to DU!

3. Thank you. I just always thought the number of participants was larger than usual

Thanks for the greeting by the way. Wish I had found this place sooner.... Very enlightening.

5. I doubt Trump received a majority of votes in the primaries

Most Repubs I know voted for Cruz or Rubio. The reasons they gave at the time sounded like everyone but themselves know.

6. First debate was hosted by Fox News, and mods helped set the WWF tone.

If it was hosted by PBS, for example, Donald may not have gotten that advantage.

7. Their nomination process was a complete circus.

Daffy Duck and George of the Jungle would have been serious contenders in that crowd. No wonder they nominated someone more at home in a cartoon than in the Oval Office. Shame on our country for letting him get there.
