GOP Senator: Republican voters no longer care about issues, only loyalty to Trump.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/congressional-republicans-hesitant-to-antagonize-trump-over-russia-probe

“The president is, as you know — you’ve seen his numbers among the Republican base — it’s very strong. It’s more than strong, it’s tribal in nature,” said Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who decided to retire when his second term concludes at year’s end, after periodically sparring with Trump.

“People who tell me, who are out on trail, say, look, people don’t ask about issues anymore. They don’t care about issues. They want to know if you’re with Trump or not,” Corker added.

...

Public polling has consistently shown that most Republican voters are satisfied with Trump’s job performance and trust him over his allies in Washington. Rep. Jim Renacci, who Trump personally recruited to run for Senate in Ohio and must first get through a primary, said Republican voters aren’t interested in seeing the president pressured on Russia.

Oh, if only, if only.

If only we could understand what Trump-voters REALLY care about, then the Democrats could totally win them over. But it's a total mystery.

Very simple, oldest reasons in the book.

Well, the hatred of gay and trans isnt that old since most people who think like trumpers didnt know they existed 20 years ago.

on to hate anything not exactly like them unless it is their family member. And sometimes even then.

This is scary. The voters have a loyalty test for their candidates. If you don't support Trump, we can't support you.

Trump is a political Jim Jones, and his followers (not supporters, followers) are drinking some pretty nasty Kool-Aid. The big difference is only that it won't kill them immediately, and that it will take the rest of us out with them. But how such a repellent character could have a cult following is really beyond me.

They quadruple down with trump because otherwise they would have to admit to themselves that they are either the dumbest shits or
A-List shitty people.

And August will be warm.

Rachel Maddow at some point will tout an issue poll and giggle in delight that it favors the blue side by considerable degree. Meanwhile she'll be totally clueless -- per norm -- that many Republicans will respond one way to the issue poll but still vote for Trump.

This quote is only a surprise if you don't have any conservative friends or relatives. I do, and Corker's reality has been forefront for two full years.

Currently we are aided by 5-6% of independents who have changed opinion on Trump since November 2016. Otherwise nothing has changed.
