There is a reason for what you describe as DU being a "Debbie Downer". That big picture that you

speak of regarding the progress made in the past 50 years is in very real danger of being undone.

2016 was not just a small "setback", it was the perfect storm. A SC justice that by all standards should have been afforded President Obama, was denied in the first of many outrages to follow.

While some may be depressed by everything that has transpired to inaction, I would argue that many more instead are being spurred into action. This has been evidenced by the special elections that have taken place throughout the country.

Yesterday's events sent a very clear message, and that message will be reflected in the voting booths

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
