2 of our HUD tenants got cars this week. Sherry got a fairly new one for $400 and Tony got a 2000 Cadillac for $500. You cannot imagine the independence this brings them. Tony works at my gym and he came up to chat as he always does....he was talking about something and then said "I got in my car and....." I said "Tony, did you hear what you just said...you got in your car...how cool is that?" It is so lovely.
This is Walker's WI where the poor's blood fills the hottubs of the rich.

(1,216 posts)The worst are places like Russia where the party elites and the multi-Billionaire Russians get anything they want, while the workers merely scrape by. Putin is one of the richest man in the world.

I grew up in India long ago when the kingdoms were still around. It was a few filthy rich kings and masses of poor.

(1,216 posts)I have reached the conclusion that some will always find a way to get rich. Even in communist countries, where theoretically no one is supposed to get rich. The oligarchs in Russia and the nouveau Billionaires in China are the proof of this.

My ex brother-in-law used to be the Housing Authority big shot. Bought the old Copps house on Soo Marie Drive....my kids found some "wacky weed" growing in their basement....hypocrites!

(31,261 posts)I have talked to a few people that bought those types of cars. They are happy that they have transportation to work, but three or four weeks later, they have no transportation and have lost the money paid for the vehicle. Basically the vehicles are lemon, broken down stuff where a mechanic throws in junkyard parts to get them running well enough to sell to people that can't afford other stuff.

(3,975 posts)what on earth would you buy if you had $1.000 to your name...it is a CAR. And they are happy.

(3,975 posts)The state gives them $15 FoodStamps a MONTH MAX and you think they are gonna help with an automobile? Sherry bought hers from another tenant and Tony found one thru his pastor.
When I say relatively new I mean 20 years old...not new to you, but new to them...
