(42,033 posts)Dr. Jackson has already demonstrated poor judgment by the very failure to turn down the offer. Somewhere deep in his heart he may know he is making a mistake. If not, maybe those near him will tell him.

Dr. Jackson may feel that despite being under-qualified for the position, he can't do any worse than all the other people who are now being appointed to various positions.
Trump and his cohorts have set the bar so low, anyone who has any familiarity with the department they are supposed to oversee - no matter how limited their experience/expertise might be - probably think that they can wing-it.
If Betsy DeVos and Ben Carson can be appointed to the offices they now hold, why should anyone feel under-qualified for anything by comparison?
What a fuckin' nightmare.

(27,835 posts)... who is now in charge of a department he stated he would abolish during his presidential run - except he couldn't remember the name of said agency until prompted by one of the other losers on the dais!

(55,137 posts)The guy is really nice, honest, well liked, etc yet he has no experience for this position. This is a giant department and there is a lot to handle and he is not qualified. It is not a personal attack, in fact it is just the opposite. I don't know what would make an obviously smart, amicable guy to accept this position and in THIS admin?!?!? Is he a masochist?
old guy
(3,299 posts)he would refuse the nomination. By accepting he is proving he is none of those things.
