I didn't watch the reboot of Roseanne, but I did see this clip of the show. And the question I had was, did they really just state as fact that it was Trump who saved the Conner house? Really, in one sentence they established as fact that Trump's economic plans provided a job that wasn't there before? That his tax cut provided a landfall of money for the Conners to pay the mortgage?
I think this is the danger of normalizing that everyone is talking about.

The show is not that simple, definitely not the rah rah Trump-fest that those who havent watched think it is. There are liberal characters, there are characters that many Trumpians would feel very uncomfortable seeing.

(36,527 posts)When Harvey hit Houston & Trump was slow to respond, I read right winger comments that Obama hadn't responded quickly to Katrina, either. WTF? I agree with Richard Painter, that the American people need to sharpen up.
on edit: I've never watched a single episode of Roseanne, so I know nothing about it. But I do know that republicans lie. And the media rarely calls them out on it.

(1,148 posts)I guess Roseanne was feeling guilty about being so rich when her character wasn't. It was clearly making her more uncomfortable, so she had to censor out economic struggle.
I really loathed the crappy bits that Roseanne came up with at the end.

(26,060 posts)fucking watch the episode rather than opine about it because it's far more complicated than many are making it to be. If you want to not watch because Roseanne is a disgusting twit (that nazi tweet alone is reason enough), that's fine but making bold statements about a show not seen is BS.

(31,464 posts)The episodes are 22 minutes long. So you actually did watch at least the first episode, and 1/3 of the next. Did you really find it to be the Trump love-fest so many other DUers have claimed? I sure as heck didn't.

(26,060 posts)And frankly, I thought they made roseanne character out to be an imbecile who believed a con man. I loved how they included Jackie mocking roseanne for the whole health care lie donnie fed them.

(99,714 posts)My friend used to own a convenience store in Daytona Beach. There was a part of it largely obscured from public view in which he sold adult magazines. One of the genres was infantalism. Seeing a fortyish year old man who weighed about two hundred pounds in diapers on the cover was enough to convince me I didn't want to see what was inside.

(4,167 posts)I am being a overly irrational. But that is what Trump has done to me...I feel as if everything is political now...I dont even watch Tim Allens Santa Clause movies during Christmas like I use to because I dont like the guys political stance. I dont buy Koch brand products or eat Chic-Fil-a or Paps Johns. I dont watch the NFL. now I know how the crazy tea party felt about Obama.

I get a little prickly when I'm accused of supporting the right when I do. It's a big world out there, and personally, I'm not gonna cut out half of it.

(5,815 posts)If they didnt lose the house (and evidently they didnt since the new show takes place mostly in that house) Jackies retort could have been, But you didnt lose the house thanks in large part to the action taken by President Obama and a Congress that intervened to help you and millions of other ordinary people. But of course, Roseanne would have never allowed that to be written into the script. Way too close to the truth.

(2,003 posts)...many of Trump's voters blame the policies enacted by establishment Republicans just as much as they blame policies enacted by Democrats. To a lot of these people there's no difference between establishment politicians and that was a big part of Trump's appeal to the "Roseanne Class" as they are now being referred to.
You'll find very little love for GW Bush, his father, or his brother among Trump's most ardent supporters.

(1,819 posts)I think the problem is too many people that have gone through the economic downturn think this way. My father and step mother who lost their business due to the housing bust now praise Trump for their 2 dollar an hour raise that they just got from home depot.
Both of them are retired but can't afford it so they work at home depot part time. My father had allot of money that he made as a salesman over the years then left his job to buy a very lucrative landscape and nursery business in Miami Fl. Recently I found out he has no savings or money due to the housing bust and trying to keep his business afloat. They are both well into their 70's and got royally screwed in the Bush years. Yet he voted for Bush. Now they voted Trump and praise him. It's crazy because that tax cut is probably going to cost them their medicare or SS when they need it most. But unfortunately that is the problem with that generation and always has been they are easily conned.

(100,104 posts)My line is when they start saying that the people who voted for Trump are more patriotic than those who aren't. Being a patriot is like being a super genius - if you have to constantly remind me that you are one, you aren't.

(100,104 posts)I thought he was hilarious on Saturday Night Live as Rex Tillerson last week. That line was classic- "One minute you're the head of a $50 billion dollar corporation, the next minute, you get fired by a guy who used to sell steaks in the mail."
And The Big Lebowski is one of my all time favorite movies. I might watch just for him but I'm definitely not hanging around for the ambiance.

(9,670 posts)The lion's share of the foreclosure boom was long, long behind us by the time Trump threw his hat in the ring for 2016.
If the Conners were about to lose their home, it was due to the fuck up in Washington named George W. Bush.
If they were able to save their home and find gainful employment, it was likely during the Obama years.
