Isaiah 3:4
It wasn't until 24 hours before the March that Yolanda King the 9-year old granddaughter of Martin Luther King, Jr. learned that she would be a guest speaker in front of hundreds of thousands of people. That's very little time to prepare for such a presentation. Yet this little angel put together a remarkable tribute to both her Grandfather, and today's movement. How, I wondered, did Yolanda accomplish this?
Then, I saw an amazing interview, in which she explained. The night before finding out that she would be speaking, she had a dream. She was in a museum, looking at a statue of her Grandfather. Suddenly, the statue came to life. Immediately, there were reporters surrounding Dr. King, hoping to interview him. But Dr. King only sought to speak to his granddaughter. He told her that he would always be with her, and with that, the dream was completed.
Thus, 9-year old Yolanda though admittedly nervous as she came out on stage quickly became comfortable in delivering her I Have a Dream speech.
To the entire DU community, I wish you a happy Easter Uprising!

(76,757 posts)I will venture that the world would be a better place if people listened to her, rather than the Laura Ingraham/ John Bolton-types.

(1,009 posts)I feel comforted knowing that she and some of those children are our future leaders. I am absolutely awe stricken at these kids who are light years ahead in poise, intelligence & maturity than the adults who have attacked them.
Happy Easter.

(76,757 posts)As bad as things have gotten in the past 50 years (with many good things in that same time, of course), it gives me a sense of confidence that we will not only "survive" Trump et al, but actually come through stronger and better.

(25,816 posts)Sometimes I allow myself to wonder what the world would be like if we
hadn't lost MLK and the Kennedys. And many more taken from us too soon.
I do, too. It seems to be part of the aging process, in my case, I suppose. I remember those times, those people. And I still feel everything.

(58,724 posts)That particular section is the same as her most recent presentation. Likewise, other parts were much the same as she communicated in her first face-to-face meeting with President Obama.
I'd note that her grandfather frequently used sections of past speeches in his (then-current) deliveries. Those who study his speeches and writings are, of course, fully aware of that. Even the majority of his famous last speech -- given 50 years ago this Tuesday -- was given weeks before. The context of that last speech made it far more important, historically, even though sections of the words were identical.
As you note, this is as common as it is important.
She was great!
