Mine is WRGB channel 6 in the Albany N Y area. What's yours? so we can avoid watching their local news.

(58,785 posts)very red with a lot of rural. Perhaps that's why Sinclair, which has stations around the nation, hasn't expanded into our towns yet. Not needed.
We also watch PBS and local news virtually never. It's canned corporate stuff. If it bleeds, it leads, traffic and weather, little heart.

(34,661 posts)One Fox and the other NBC. And understand they are trying to buy out Scrippts Howard which would give them the ABC affiliate. So we are on the verge of 3 out of 4.

(17,984 posts)According to the Wikipedia link posted above. Now I feel a little better about CO.
Now if they had bought Tribune, it would be a different story.

(6,916 posts)Perhaps the single most important thing we can do is tell everyone about whats going on with Sinclair:
Billionaires are using local TV as propaganda to get votes for pro-billionaire policies like tax cuts and privatization.
Propaganda only works if people dont know what the agenda is. Sinclair has sneaked up on us. Most Americans dont know what they are doing. We can tell people.

(1,469 posts)All types of media for the blitz- local newspapers, AM and FM radio ads. The populous will not find out from their local Sinclair station or Fox. This may be more dangerous than Fox. It is like having "mini" Fox as their trusted, local friendly station. Their happy, favorite anchor is now spewing this propaganda. We need to act quickly

(36,429 posts)but Sinclair had to sell the plum station during their overstretched, cash strapped days.
They reentered the market by buying a Fox affiliate just this year, part of the Tribune Media buyout.
I don't know if Mark Hyman is still doing his shit spin white wing editorials on the television, but here's a recent one I found on YouTube that is typical of the shit he pitches:

(3,408 posts)Stop watching their local programming. Let their advertisers know that this is an issue by tanking their local ratings.

(25,938 posts)Sinclair has made a bid for Tribune Broadcasting, and if the FCC approves, our Fox affiliate becomes a Sinclair station. I have written many letters in opposition, which I hope have been read.

(205,320 posts)Most of the time those here assume it's my birthday. I was actually born in Albany (Menands), but now I'm farther north - grew up in Saratoga (hence the zip code) and now I'm just north of Glens Falls and south of Lake George, West Mountain area.
And if I watch the local news, I either tune into Channel 10 (got my previous dog from Steve Caporizzo's "Pet Connection" ) or Channel 13 in the morning for the weather. And you got more snow this morning?? We actually had a decent day today - after being snowed in for most of last month!
Glad to know you!
I am about an hour from Albany. Rural spec of blue. So have you any recommendation for local news?

Channel 10 is a bit slanted but channel 6 is the sinclair station that read the propaganda !

(25,320 posts)I've never liked their news.
Also our local Fox 29 affiliate, but hardly anyone watches their news. Compared to the network affiliates, it is like s-l-o-w motion. Like watching paint dry or something.
Also our local affiliate of "The CW". (I don't think they have news. Never even tuned into that station. Most notable for Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

(25,856 posts)extremely glad I don't watch broadcast TV.
Don't get me wrong. I watch a reasonable number of TV shows, just not over the airwaves or on cable or satellite.
Among other benefits, I don't see commercials. Which is an exceptional blessing during election season.

(7,429 posts)Just a reminder that in Drumpf's "hometown" there are 3 Sinclair stations
WPEC - local CBS
WTVX - local cw
WTCN - local My Network
I hate what they have done to WPEC. I don't even recognize that station any longer

(11,465 posts)Is owned by them. So far I couldnt tell they were different than others. I am going to try and spot the difference now. Most of the shows I watch are on a different channel though so seldom on CBS.
We only have antenna so its all local.

(2,120 posts)I grew up in the 50's in Columbia County. WRGB was the first and only station we could get in '53 or thereabouts. And my dad had to put a big antenna on a 40 foot tower in order to receive that.
