(4,066 posts)I'm an IT guy. I know these bots can be blocked. From simple things like blocking geo-locations to using artificial intelligence to spot and block them.
These companies spend tremendous amount of money on AI to figure out how to coerce and corral us all. They could very easily use AI to figure out who bots are vs real people. It's not even that though. When I look at someone's profile on sites and see that it is anonymous and they post every two to five minutes I'm pretty sure they're a bot. If I simply matched that pattern to their geo-location I'd probably filter out a ton of Russian bots. That leaves me a slightly more, but not impossible, task of finding the ones that are using anonymizers to hide their location and the ones who are live people.
It is clear they don't want to do this because the bots drive real, live people like us to respond and see their sites. It drives revenue. That is why it will not stop.
