That said, my point was that she exploited, in a good way, that role - so progressives have a fond association with a role for which the only qualification is being married to the president. The extraordinary work she did in that role, though, masks the sexism of referring to a woman who went on from that role to be senator, secretary of state, and Democratic presidential candidate by the title that merely means she was married to the president.

Clinton also graduated from one of the most prestigious law schools in the nation, and had a public and private career before serving as FLOTUS. Do you see me, or anyone else, suggesting you should refer to her using titles from that era? It is not the pre-white house era that elevated either of these two women to national prominence.

When Michele Obama has decades of post-white house experience, I hope we won't be having this conversation about whether it is appropriate to refer to her as the former FLOTUS, rather than whatever honorifics go with whatever she goes on to accomplish in the next 2 decades.

By the way, I don't think there is anything wrong with you calling Hillary Clinton the former FLOTUS. That's just a statement of fact and most people here are aware of her other accomplishments.
