The Sinclair Broadcast Group is likely the most powerful media company most people hadnt heard of that is, until last week, when a viral video showed one way the company could carry out its agenda.
The video, from Deadspins Timothy Burke, shows local anchors around the country reciting the same scripted lines that Sinclair provided. They all say they are concerned about the troubling trend of irresponsible, one-sided news stories plaguing our country. Its the local news version of Sean Hannity or Tucker Carlson complaining that the mainstream media is lying to Americans. But now its not just happening on one influential station; its an organized effort happening on hundreds of stations, all around the nation.

Sinclair, the pro-Trump, conservative company taking over local news, explained
We put a lot of attention on cable news channels like Fox News and MSNBC. But over the past few years, Sinclair has accumulated almost 200 local stations in nearly 100 markets, with a not-so-secret mission to push conservative, pro-Trump messages.
And Pew data shows that while local news viewership is falling, local stations audience is still comparable to that of network news and significantly higher than that of cable news.................................

(16,876 posts)I'm not surprised in the least. They have a distinctly conservative bent to the news and tend to focus heavily on "crime and punishment" stories much more than the other local news stations. I made the comment to my wife months ago that if one didn't know better, you'd think Nashville was a freaking war zone of crime from watch that channel. Unfortunately, my wife likes to watch GMA in the mornings so the local news does pop in for updates, but those are usually not as tainted as the full broadcasts.

(9,527 posts)It lists no Sinclair stations in the Boston market but I get at least two of their channels over the air in Charge and Comet. Maybe Vox isn't counting them due to not having local news.
