Maryland Working Families backs Donna F. Edwards in Prince Georges County executive race

Former congresswoman Donna F. Edwards earned the support of the progressive group Maryland Working Families in her bid to become Prince George’s next county executive.

Edwards, a progressive who was drafted to run by local activists, secured the endorsement of the grass-roots group because of her focus on “lifting up working people,” including pushing for better paid family leave and to increase the minimum wage, said Charly Carter, the group’s executive director.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a true progressive in Prince George’s,” said Carter, whose group has 32,000 members in the county and 80,000 statewide.

Edwards’ lead competitors are State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks and State Sen. C. Anthony Muse (D-Prince George’s), who both have strong support bases within the county.
