General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHas the posting slowed down on DU?
Are DUers getting burned out? Tired? Just sick of the whole mess?
It seems to me that threads that would have disappeared in a matter of minutes, just a couple of weeks ago, are staying on the page for hours?
Has anyone else noticed this?
We should encourage everyone to stay involved. It is OK to take a break but we cannot give up. We must never give up to this fascism. We must not deceive ourselves into believing it is something else.

(34,195 posts)I lived in Portland, ME for five years.
I recall very short 'summers', more like July and August.
I don't know where you are in New England but,
the high today in Portland is to be 44 and in Boston 46.

(4,742 posts)I used to live in South Florida and my buddy there said it was close to 90 Sunday.
It's really hot in the south and really cold in the north.
ChazII
(6,217 posts)is when it gets hot. In Florida you have the humidity which is miserable. Here, as we joke, it is a dry heat. Today is supposed to reach 93.

(16,253 posts)because it seems that at least half of the new posts are "why I hate Bernie Sanders" posts. Possibly more than half some days.

(26,792 posts)I think it's taking it's toll..it sure is on me. I've responded occasionally and I'm always sorry. There's are so many important posts that don't get traction, but hate on Sanders and boom.. it's a long, mean hatefest.
Bettie
(16,253 posts)And it isn't "I disagree with him on this or that" it is full on hatred and it is ugly to see.
I don't even bother to respond at all, just trash the thread and move on. But, it makes the front page pretty static, since the only thing many people around here these days want to do is dog pile on Sen. Sanders.

(16,253 posts)and in less than five minutes, I have trashed 6 threads devoted to being angry that Bernie Sanders dares to exist.

(2,574 posts)We need to win back the House, Senate, Governorships, and everything down ballot we can save. Our Democracy itself is in grave danger and Bernie Sanders is NOT the problem.
Maybe they could create an anti Bernie Group then everybody could just put this dispiriting, divisive noise on ignore?

(2,286 posts)But then a poster will find a way to link Bernie to the topic, other posters pile on and it becomes another Bernie bashing thread.
I trash more and more of them and put on ignore those who keep the hate going.

(113,624 posts)because one of my cats bit me on the shin and caused issues (almost unable to walk, loss of appetite, extra bathroom and laundry room trips, etc.). Since I probably post about 25%-30% of the late night threads the effects are noticeable by the next morning when people wake up.
I'm hoping that I get back into the groove this week, but I'm only at about 60%-70% and was sidetracked by other issues like an overzealous team of apartment managers who are looking to hand out lease violations and jack up revenue. We got zinged for having a few broken slats on our blinds (the cat wants to sit on the window sill). They charged $60 for a $4 set of blinds to replace the old ones. The residents of this complex aren't happy with the new slumlord. Considering that all the lease violations must be paid with money orders it could mean that he has found a way to possibly avoid reporting that revenue and evading taxes (he is from India).

(14,167 posts)I took a very long break from this board. I came back to find it very different.
Sometimes, with everything going on in this world... with all the destruction, I have to take a mental and physical break from it all. No politics, no political TV content, etc.
It may be the same with others. I come back for posters like yourself, MelissaB, Waterman and others. But I will be honest -- the tribalism is discouraging. I prefer the more thoughtful, analytical content.

(16,245 posts)I am one "fuck you" away from being banned, probably. So I am careful (but why? This is only a website, one in which I feel unwelcome anyway. So why do I care? It's because I haven't found any other. Twitter, maybe, because it's more freewheeling, but also kind of awful.)
I see so many threads bashing Bernie Sanders for basically saying the sky is blue that I am sorely tempted to do that. When in fact, Sanders is a progressive, yes, and saying things that the Democratic Party really needs to listen to, and yet even Sanders isn't all that far left, in the history of leftism, anyway.
So many posters who laud MSNBC as the liberal answer, when it it just in fact a corporate news machine in love with ex-generals only because they happen to hate Trump as much as we do, but who are responsible for the ongoing war crime that is Iraq (this is why I listen to Counterspin and Democracy Now as an antidote to corporate media).
I see too many so-called "liberals" here who don't understand that it was the truly progressive policies of the past that made this country. FDR welcomed the hatred of bankers and rich people, while today's Democratic Party caters to them.
And, of course, if you are skeptical about the actual EFFECT of Russian meddling in the election (because I am skeptical that they actuall accomplished what we seem to think they did), you are labeled (here at least) a bot. I am also skeptical that Trump himself had anything to do with it. Sure, he is in debt up to his eyeballs to Russian mobsters and oligarchs and he has plenty of financial malfeasance we could get him on, but orchestrating a campaign with Russia to steal the election? Doubtful.
And it is also a bit ironic that we used to (back in the George W. Bush era) freely criticize opposition Democrats as spineless (because in those days many WERE) but now that sort of talk (even if it is true) gets your posts removed. This website started as a reaction to the Bush election. Yet it changed when Democrats gained power and became more establishment (for lack of a better word). Then the admonishment came to support all Democrats no matter how awful some of them might actually be. It's become a place where you cannot have substantive discussions of policy and how to achieve it. Instead it is about being on "Team Democrat" and it is the team sports aspects of this that despise. This, despite the obvious institutional failings of that party over the years. But we can't talk about it. You're either on the team or not.

(3,019 posts)eyeball in guilt. This site could be so great for dems and progressives if it would debate ideas rather than trash people. Sanders hate is stupid. It offends millions of potential dem voters, particularly young people. Apparently we have a small number of outspoken commenters who won't hesitate to ruin it for everyone else.

(54,930 posts)Due to the short work week this past week (Easter Monday is an official holiday here), I was in Düsseldorf, Barcelona and Madrid last Tuesday, Brussels and Saint Genèse on Wednesday, Brussels, Paris, and Frankfurt on Thursday and Düsseldorf and Zürich on Friday (slept practically the whole weekend)--and STILL managed to get a few posts in.
I was already in Düsseldorf, Utrecht and IJsselstein today, will pack tomorrow and in the evening will go out to dinner with my wife for our anniversary. I have to be in northern Virginia Wednesday night.
I plead innocent. I don't live inside my computer.
