The Stormy Daniels affair just turned into a Category 5 hurricane. The FBI has raided the D.C. office of President Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen, according to the New York Times, and Vanity Fair is reporting that a team of feds in New York also searched the Park Avenue hotel where Cohen has been staying. The agents reportedly seized documents and records connected to the $130,000 hush-money payment Cohen made to the porn star shortly before the 2016 election allegedly on Trump's behalf and perhaps much more.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Stormy Daniels' attorney, Michael Avenatti, said: "As I predicted last week on CNN and MSNBC, Mr. Cohen has been placed in the crosshairs by Mr. Trump. He has been set up to take the fall. An enormous amount of misplaced faith has been placed on his shoulders and I do not believe he has the mettle to withstand it. If I'm correct, this could end very, very badly for Mr. Trump and others."

(1,559 posts)Then he pays off a porn star, no big deal. Except, Boss is now running for President, and now this payoff is now an Illegal Campaign contribution.
The problem with Illegal Campaign contributions is that they are well, Illegal.
So everything involved in the payoff becomes a crime. Conspiracy, and wire fraud, maybe tax fraud to name a few crimes that are bigger than the initial 'illegal" act.
And entering your client into a contract without telling you client can also get an attorney disbarred.
Then the whole deal gets public, your acts which turn out to be illegal get public, and the next thing you know the FBI comes knocking.
OOPS.

(9,682 posts)Have definitely placed Cohen in the crosshairs. And let's face it, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
I think Cohen is the center of the spiderweb. Those records will tell a tale that will bring more charges against more people and institutions than any that have ever gone before him.

(48,101 posts)1. Cohen fired from his law firm;
2. Trump will probably fire Cohen as well -- and not pay the outstanding balance; and
3. Cohen facing ethics violations with the possibility of losing his law license.
Mike, was it really worth it?

(5,210 posts)Cohen knows where ALL the bodies are buried.
And people who talk are being treated far more nicely than people who don't, so if Trump pisses him off, he's got lots of new ways to get back at him.

(11,281 posts)Pretty much reiterates his comments about Cohen being the fall guy. He also believes the Stormy Daniels' affair/suit has served as a flashpoint for what we saw today, spurring these developments forward.
Karma has a strange way of making herself heard. What an incredible irony if it's a single woman who starts the avalanche that overwhelms the Trumpster and his cabal.
