Roseanne's ratings still dropping, down 12% from last week

I did watch part of the show, since I'd heard from RWers who watched last week's show that it wasn't very funny.

Last night's show wasn't very funny, either.

Fans of the old show were probably really hyped to see it come back. Apparently not enough are hyped about the tone of the current incarnation.

People were quick to jump on the "Trump effect" causing good ratings but I was thinking, this was a popular show in the 90's making a comeback how much was curiosity that would fade?

TV's a copycat business. When "Hawaii 5-0", then "Will & Grace" successfully re-booted, that opened the door to having more of network shows from 20+ years ago get another chance.

22. Major networks are far too reflexive

They signed Barr's new show to an entire second season based solely on its numbers for the premiere. The one week that was guaranteed to have the biggest audience and they locked in for another run. How stupid is that?

Now they're only three weeks in and viewers are dropping away. I have no pity for any of them.

In case anyone remembers, "Cheers" was almost cancelled in its first year because the suits at NBC were dismayed at its admittedly poor ratings. However, it took off and became a legendary show for the network. There's other shows with similar tales, "Freaks and Geeks" an example that jumps to mind.

16. The big ratings the first few weeks were just people taking a look out of curiosity.

Once the novelty wore off, and they saw it for the bomb it is, they were gone.
