You just don't try and fuck with the most elite law enforcement agency on the world.

(2,697 posts)These investigations would all be going on even if Trump had done nothing but praise the FBI. But Trump being Trump, I suspect numerous professionals -- not just FBI, but CIA and other Federal LEOs -- are taking a certain amount of pleasure each time another nail is hammered into the coffin's lid.

(37,648 posts)They don't take calls from the public. Too many wackos with personal vendettas would call in about their ex gfs or bfs.
You report a crime to local authorities, and they will investigate, if they think it's warranted. IF it involves certain crimes, and IF they get a warrant, they'll refer to the FBI. I think that's how it works.
Notice that even Mueller didn't go straight to the FBI.

(37,648 posts)The head of the FBI is Trump appointee, Republican Chris Wray. The warrants were reviewed & approved by Trump's DOJ people, and Republican Rosenstein.
It was reviewed & approved by a judge. This is a serious matter. It's not easy to get search and seizure warrants against an attorney, much less the personal attorney of the President. There must be strong evidence that was attached to the warrant requests.
They're doing their job. This is serious stuff.

(37,648 posts)He's Republican. A host of high level DOJ (Trump's DOJ) reviewed and approved the warrants. Republican Mueller turned info over to Republican Rosenstein. A judge reviewed and approved it. It's not easy to get search and seizure warrants on an attorney, much less the President's personal attorney.
This was not payback in any way. That's insulting to the FBI, the DOJ, the AG's office, and the rule of law. They are not on a fishing expedition.

(12,591 posts)When I opened it, there was a man holding out his identification (I can't remember if it was FBI or OSI) and telling me he was doing a background investigation and would I answer some questions. Like I had a choice. He was very nice, I was a nervous wreck. I didn't think I had ever done anything that would warrant further investigation, but it's hard to think when your mind is racing a mile a minute.
I would have probably pissed in my pants had he handed me a search warrant.
In the end I passed the background check.

Even the people who thought Nixon was wrong to resign were ready to admit he actually did that shit. Proof is Proof. The American People will eventually just ignore them for their idiocy.
Then maybe we can get ourselves back to running an actual democracy with a useful and functional government.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)Former hippies across the United States have been put in the unbearable position of rooting for the F.B.I., hippies have confirmed.
From Vermont to California, erstwhile hippies bemoaned a nightmare scenario that has forced them to side with a law-enforcement agency they have despised since the Summer of Love.
I always dreamed Id spend my retirement surrounded by my grandchildren, telling them that the F.B.I. were fascist pigs, Carol Foyler, a former hippie who lives in Santa Cruz, said. That dream has been shot to hell.
Her husband, Mick, nodded his head in sad agreement. We were so happy when pot was legalized in California, he said. But the fact that were now on the same side as the F.B.I. has ruined even that.
Now in their seventies, the Foylers are spending their days doing things they never dreamed possible when they traipsed through the mud at Woodstock: going door to door in Santa Cruz, asking other former freaks to sign a pro-F.B.I. petition.
Donald Trump has wrecked Americas standing around the world, spread misogyny and bigotry, ravaged the environment, and endorsed a child molester, Carol said. But making people like us support the F.B.I. is the most unforgivable thing hes done.

(115,829 posts)J. Edgar Hoover, who was its director for 48 years, turned it into his own very powerful fiefdom and used information it collected to control the decisions of politicians. It eventually became notorious for its political intelligence gathering, obscenity investigations, secret files and targeting of African-Americans, gays, war protesters and leftists. During the '60s and '70s they surveilled peaceful civilians who were involved in the civil rights and antiwar movements, which Hoover considered to be Communist movements. After Hoover died, Congress passed legislation to ensure that directors would serve 10-year term to avoid the abuses of an entrenched director like Hoover. It would also help avoid FBI directors being subservient to partisan presidential interests.
Although there's certainly room for criticism it's not Hoover's FBI any more.

(5,810 posts)He is quite used to doing whatever he wants to do with fixers like Cohen to make it all okay again. He pays off various people and the punishment that most of us would get for our misdeeds goes away for him. At least it has worked that way up to now.
tRump is in a whole other arena and the old methods are not protecting him anymore. And his fixers and ass kissers are finding themselves in the hot seat. How many will sing like a canary to save their own hides. Cohen says he will take a bullet for tRump. When the long arm of the law starts to put the screws to this guy, lets see how brave he is and how many bullets he is prepared to take for a guy that has already tossed him under the bus and is prepared to put it in reverse and back over him again as often as necessary.

(318 posts)All 100 senators headed to White House for classified briefing on North Korea on Apr. 26, 2017
All 100 senators were invited and taken in buses for the unprecedented, classified briefing. President Trump's secretary of State, Defense secretary, top general and national intelligence director were to outline for them North Korea's escalating nuclear capabilities and U.S. response options, officials said. The briefing team was to meet later with House members in the Capitol.
The unusual sessions don't necessarily presage the use of force along one of the world's most heavily militarized frontiers, and some lawmakers questioned whether the cross-Washington procession was largely show, with Trump expected to drop in on the Eisenhower Executive Office Building gathering of lawmakers.
But it certainly reflected the increased American alarm over North Korea's progress in developing a nuclear-tipped missile that could strike the U.S. mainland. And the recent flurry of military activity on and around the divided Korean peninsula has put the world at high alert.
But, this is not true. Bernie Sanders never got on that bus. He stated that he did not want to be part of a photo-opportunity.
Principles count. I know he wont run again, but there are many that will.
Go Ema!

(12,448 posts)However, people in the FBI are human beings, with human feelings. They can't help but be upset with Trump's constant attacks on the agency. They definitely did investigate a potential serious crime, by the book and after multiple officials signing off on the warrant, but I'll bet at least some of them felt a certain amount of "fuck you, Trump" privately.
